So delightful.

Our Pugs are suffering and now we know by exactly how much. 😢

A new study has shown just how much more likely they are than normal dogs to develop various health conditions and the results are horrifying.

They are

🐶 54 times more likely to have Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome - which makes their breathing incredibly difficult every moment of their lives.

🐶 51 time more likely to have pinched nostrils - which further restricts their airways

🐶 13 times more likely to have eye ulcers - thanks to their hugely bulging eyes which are incredibly vulnerable to damage.

🐶 11 times more likely to have infected skin folds

🐶 10 times more likely to have ear infections

🐶 5.5 times more likely to have Demodectic Mange

🐶 4 times more likely to have retained baby teeth - which often need to be surgically extracted

🐶 4 time more likely to be obese - which then further predisposes them to other conditions like arthritis

We are letting our flat faced dogs down and it is time to consider whether it is fair to be producing them at all.

They suffer because of the way they look, so it doesn't really matter if they are 'well bred' or not. If they have flat faces, protruding eyes, curved spines and closed nostrils, they are hugely likely to struggle at some point in their lives.

And that is our fault.

I love Pugs, they are funny, cute and adorable but they do not deserve this.

RED FLAGS IN ADS FOR DOG-TRAINING SERVICES | KMVU Fox 26 Medford

Local and national news tell us that the dog-training industry is experiencing unprecedented growth right now because of the many dogs and puppies adopted during the last two pandemic years. What the news doesn’t mention is that, since dog training is an unregulated industry, it’s like the Wild ...

Read that again, then please go and apologise to your vet if you've ever complained about any of these.

Vets work hard every day to keep pets in good health and improve their welfare, often getting little to no thanks and often getting complaints about relatively inconsequential things, ignoring the fact pets are better and home again.

Please put these things into perspective, thank you ❤

30th June EDIT:
The table info below simply provides a counter to comments and complaints vets hear all the time. It provides a comparison with a service ALL pet owners will have experience of, not everyone can afford private healthcare so that wouldn't be a familiar comparison to make.

It is in no way intended as criticism of our wonderful NHS and all its hardworking staff 💙👏🏼

Both medics and vets receive far too much unwarranted criticism and abuse

This is just so incredibly sad.

Please don’t fall for internet driven fad diets, of which feeding whole day old chicks seems to be the latest trend.

They are not suitable for any dog and certainly not a puppy, as this absolutely tragic story proves.

Choosing your pet's food can be an absolute minefield! There are SO many options in the shops and SO many opinions on what is best!

The WSAVA - World Small Animal Veterinary Association have recently updated their 'Guidelines for Selecting A Pet Food' and it is well worth a read!

They are an easy to understand set of requirements that you can use to judge if a pet food is good quality.

They can be applied to every kind of diet, kibble, fresh or raw, and if your chosen one cannot meet this level of excellence, I would question whether it is the right choice for your pet.

You should be able to find all the information you need on the companies website, and if not, they should let you know if you ask them.

I only feed my furry family members diets that hit every single one of these points, and I would suggest you do too!

Use caution when buying medications online. Some online pharmacies sell counterfeit and/or questionable medications.

Nothing makes us more sad than when a raptor comes into the Cascades Raptor Center hospital with a preventable illness or injury. These three otherwise fat, healthy baby Red-tailed hawks were already deceased by the time they reached us - and their deaths were the direct result of an easily avoidable human activity.
Using rodenticide poison = poisonous rodents.
A raptor parent has no idea the food they caught for their babies is now deadly. Please choose other pest-control options, like traps, so that raptors aren't killed by tainted rodents.

Thank you, Lex, for working on Odie. His hips have been bothering him, but after your laser treatment he jumped up on the couch with no hesitation!
CONGRATULATIONS! And a very professional write up with excellent information for the lay person on treatment.
