Today our little friend Walter stopped by for a nail trim! Though he is tiny, Walter is a mighty 35 years old!
Walter has been bringing joy to the Bumblebee Classroom at for 20 years!

•Did you know?

-According to the Turtle Conservation Society, most turtle species can live anywhere in between 10 to 80 years!

-Dr. Sarkisian also wants us to know that “All tortoises are turtles too!”

-The oldest living turtle is Johnathan, a Seychelles giant tortoise🐢 who just celebrated his 190th birthday at his home on the South Atlantic Island of St. Helena!

We never know when or where an emergency will happen. This is why investing in pet insurance is recommended from the moment you adopt a new pet. This way if you have an unexpected vet bill, you don’t even need to second guess the investment. As a pet owner, know what to do in case of an emergency, and be sure to include your pet in the family emergency plan ⛑⁣

It is estimated that 52.7% of dogs and 57.9% cats in the United States are overweight or obese. Many people face the same issue, and encourages pet owners to get regular exercise with their pets. This improves cardiovascular health, helps both pets and people maintain a healthy weight, supports good mental health for both owner & pet, and strengthens the human-animal bond. Your veterinarian can advise you on how much to feed your pet and whether the diet you’re providing is nutritious – including both meals and treats 🦴⁣

4️⃣ See your vet! 🩺
Regular preventive care is critical to keep pets healthy and improve both quality & length of life. Don’t wait to take your pet to the veterinarian only when it’s visibly sick or injured. If you’re already wondering whether or not your pet should see a vet, chances are you should bring them in! Pets often hide signs of illness, so regular check-ups are vital to catching health problems early ✅⁣⁣

1️⃣ A pet is for life!! ❤️⁣
So choose well, and pick a pet that's right for your lifestyle. Don’t make an impulse decision - this is a committed relationship! Before you commit to adopting a pet for life, consider the financial and time investment 📊⁣
Once you commit to this decision, make sure you obey local ordinances and licensing laws. Ensure your pet is properly identified with a microchip and name tag. Limit further populations of strays and plan to spay & neuter your pet 👍

2️⃣ Socialization 🐶⁣
A puppy’s prime socialization period starts as early as 3 weeks old and lasts up to 12-14 weeks old (that’s less than four months!). It is vital to help your pet get comfortable in new situations by exposing it safely to a variety of interactions with other animals, people, places and activities. From a puppy to an older rescue, starting socialization right away is important for both your pet and everyone who will be interacting with them! 😊⁣

We are Halloween ready - are you? 👻

Some safety tips for this week, brought to you by :

1. Don't feed your pets Halloween candy (both xylitol & chocolate are toxic to pets!) 🍫
2. Make sure your pet is properly identified (microchip, collar and ID tag) in case they get out.
3. Keep lit candles and jack-o-lanterns out of reach of pets 🎃
4. It can be a scary time for your pet with costumes and trick-or-treaters; if your pet is fearful, keep them inside in a separate room / their favorite safe place 🖤
5. If you plan to put a costume on your pet, make sure it fits properly and is comfortable, doesn't have any pieces that can easily be chewed off, and doesn't interfere with your pet's sight, hearing, breathing, opening its mouth, or moving. Take time to get your pet accustomed to the costume before Halloween, and never leave your pet unsupervised while wearing a costume.
