Please ensure your pets are safe inside and comfortable from the noises & chaos this holiday can bring.
And don’t forget to keep yourselves & your pets safe from this summer sun. You may even want to invest in a pet visor here like Kiley is sporting! If your pet has any hairless or pink spots on their skin you can also use children’s sunscreen for protection ☀️
The final and most important tip of ⤵️
7️⃣ Give your pet a lifetime of love 💕
Thanks to better care, pets are living longer now than they ever have before—and as pets get older, they need extra care and attention. Learn what's "normal" and what may be a reason for concern about an aging pet. And remember that regular vet examinations can detect problems in older pets before they become advanced or life-threatening. They also can improve your pet's chances for a longer and healthier life 🐶
Tips Pt. 3
5️⃣ Travel planning 🚙
Traveling with pets requires advance planning and coordination to keep everybody safe. Whether you’re taking a short car trip or flying to another state or country, getting your pet safely to your destination requires special precautions. These range from proper restraints during travel to veterinary exams & travel certificates. Plan ahead, and have excellent pet care prepared if you decide to travel without your pet! ✈️
6️⃣ Emergencies happen: Be prepared 🚨
We never know when or where an emergency will happen. This is why investing in pet insurance is recommended from the moment you adopt a new pet. This way if you have an unexpected vet bill, you don’t even need to second guess the investment. As a pet owner, know what to do in case of an emergency, and be sure to include your pet in the family emergency plan ⛑
River here for more tips 😍🐾
3️⃣ Nutrition and exercise matter more than you may think 🦮🥩🐕🦺
It is estimated that 52.7% of dogs and 57.9% cats in the United States are overweight or obese. Many people face the same issue, and encourages pet owners to get regular exercise with their pets. This improves cardiovascular health, helps both pets and people maintain a healthy weight, supports good mental health for both owner & pet, and strengthens the human-animal bond. Your veterinarian can advise you on how much to feed your pet and whether the diet you’re providing is nutritious – including both meals and treats 🦴
4️⃣ See your vet! 🩺
Regular preventive care is critical to keep pets healthy and improve both quality & length of life. Don’t wait to take your pet to the veterinarian only when it’s visibly sick or injured. If you’re already wondering whether or not your pet should see a vet, chances are you should bring them in! Pets often hide signs of illness, so regular check-ups are vital to catching health problems early ✅
Over the next few days we will be sharing some tips to consider when becoming a pet owner 🐾
1️⃣ A pet is for life!! ❤️
So choose well, and pick a pet that's right for your lifestyle. Don’t make an impulse decision - this is a committed relationship! Before you commit to adopting a pet for life, consider the financial and time investment 📊
Once you commit to this decision, make sure you obey local ordinances and licensing laws. Ensure your pet is properly identified with a microchip and name tag. Limit further populations of strays and plan to spay & neuter your pet 👍
2️⃣ Socialization 🐶
A puppy’s prime socialization period starts as early as 3 weeks old and lasts up to 12-14 weeks old (that’s less than four months!). It is vital to help your pet get comfortable in new situations by exposing it safely to a variety of interactions with other animals, people, places and activities. From a puppy to an older rescue, starting socialization right away is important for both your pet and everyone who will be interacting with them! 😊

It’s that time of year again…TRAVEL SEASON ✈️
Some things to consider before you decide to bring your pet with you on your travels:
1️⃣ How pet-friendly is the destination?
2️⃣ Will you have time to care for your pet during travel?
3️⃣ How comfortable is your pet during car / plane travel?
4️⃣ How comfortable & happy will your pet be at the destination?
5️⃣ How long will the trip be, and are their places along the way for your pet to relieve itself?
Happy weekend & safe travels! 🛫🐾

Happy National Puppy Day 🐾❤️
K9 Thor appreciates all the veteran K9’s out there and wishes them a Happy National Veteran K9’s Day!
Each year, on March 13, the service of American military and working dogs throughout history is honored and commemorated.
K9 working dogs have been around since 1942, when an organization called Dogs for Defense was founded to train dogs to be sentries for supply depots.
The program was approved by the US Army and, on March 13, 1942, the US Army K9 Corps was established.
UU.
Full mouth dental X-rays are just one of the steps involved in your pets’ dental procedure 🦷
❓But why are they so important❓
Dental X-rays help identify infections, bone loss and other signs of tooth decay & disease before it is seen beyond the gum line. This helps us know which teeth may need to be removed before infection or disease spreads.
It is recommended that pets receive annual dental cleanings; sooner if your pet is more prone to dental disease.
When is the last time your pet had an oral exam or dental procedure? ⤵️

Today is National Stress Awareness Day and it’s the perfect opportunity for us to check in on our emotional and mental well-being like the team at the Dogs and Cats Veterinary Referral & Emergency (DCVR).
"Part of coping with life’s many challenges is accepting what we cannot change or control," they said. "It’s equally important to know how best to adjust to life changes, manage anger and frustration, recognize when trauma is affecting your mental health, challenge negative thinking patterns and, most importantly, make time for self-care. Whether it is meditation, yoga, exercise, watching funny videos, or calling a friend, listen to your body and give it what it needs."

We are Halloween ready - are you? 👻
Some safety tips for this week, brought to you by :
1. Don't feed your pets Halloween candy (both xylitol & chocolate are toxic to pets!) 🍫
2. Make sure your pet is properly identified (microchip, collar and ID tag) in case they get out.
3. Keep lit candles and jack-o-lanterns out of reach of pets 🎃
4. It can be a scary time for your pet with costumes and trick-or-treaters; if your pet is fearful, keep them inside in a separate room / their favorite safe place 🖤
5. If you plan to put a costume on your pet, make sure it fits properly and is comfortable, doesn't have any pieces that can easily be chewed off, and doesn't interfere with your pet's sight, hearing, breathing, opening its mouth, or moving. Take time to get your pet accustomed to the costume before Halloween, and never leave your pet unsupervised while wearing a costume.
