Susanna is in charge of chicken meds before she leaves for school in the morning. She's developed a system that works for her and the calmer chickens so she doesn't need a 2nd person. For our more skittish chickens, we wrap them in a towel for medications.

Claude came to us at 2 months old after an owner surrender at Wendi's work. He came into our lives like a wrecking ball...and is still a wrecking ball, but the happiest wrecking ball we've ever seen.

Cheyenne came to us at 6-10 months old from Underdog Animal Rescue after being found as a stray. She's the opposite of Claude in every way - pensive, calm, reserved, and is the best complement to a wild puppy.

Happy birthday to our herding dogs!

We're new to beekeeping, and we have so much more to learn!

1. You won't ever be perfect at beekeeping, because there isn't a "right" answer to every question about managing bees. Use your best judgment based on experience and what you've learned over the years.

2. Education matters. Take classes. Learn from experienced beekeepers. Learn the science. You'll have so much more of an understanding of how you want to help bees.

3. Most bees fail from varroa mites transmitting diseases. Learn about mites, look for signs of mite-transmitted diseases. Test, and treat. Don't ignore.

4. If a bee stings your hand, take off your wedding ring. Jon learned this the hard way and had to saw off his ring.

5. We rely on bees so much in our civilization. It doesn't matter if you're an omnivore, vegetarian, plant-based, raw diet, etc. If you're human, you rely on bees for your food.
