HI VIZ FOR HACKING OUT - Pretty and a safety feature at the same time- we are all about function and designs that suit a purpose. Someone asked about hi viz for hacking out - so we did a neon yellow brow/noseband liner and burnished and painted the edges with glow-in-the-dark leather paint for added reflection.

This was so fun, I also got a couple extra Nappa hides to play with! If anyone wants something with hi viz accents, lining or leather wrap, reach out! I have three hi viz hides (yellow, orange and fuchsia) and could also source neon green and electric blue.

What’s the difference between hand stitching and machine stitching for constructing tack?

Machine stitching uses two threads: one on top of the leather and one underneath (the bobbin thread). Each thread stays on the same side for each stitch and the bottom thread hooks the top thread. If one stitch breaks, the entire line of stitches will unravel. Machine stitching is quicker than hand-stitching to produce, is less labor-intensive and has a somewhat more even appearance, so is regularly found on mass-produced tack.

In hand-stitching tack with an awl, one thread with two needles is used. Each stitch is an independent loop, so if one stitch is cut, the other stitches are independent. This makes hand-stitching a safer and more durable option for tack, although it is more labor intensive to produce.

We recommend considering stitching when tack is purchased. The method of stitching, the intended use of the finished piece, and the type of thread are all considerations for selecting the brand and type of tack to get.

A mom wanted a bitless bridle for her little kid to ride her tried-and-true heart-horse until she grows enough to be soft on her horse’s mouth. This browband and crownpiece are taking shape to become a side-pull bitless bridle❤️

It’s made from shiny black Sedgwick English bridle leather that is hot-stuffed with wax to be self-conditioning over time. The raised browband is filled with sculpted harness leather (not polyester cord as is often found in mass produced bridles). Lined with soft, red Nappa glove leather and hand-stitched throughout.

Opal wore her new bridle, and we walked around and nosed all the things (rolled a barrel, moved a ball, inspected a mounting block). Opal says, “It’s how we roll 😊🐎”

Thanks for being a spokeshorse, Opal. Tack From The Heart LLC, Made-to-Measure Bridlework
