Street Outreach Services and Veterinary Street Outreach Services

Street Outreach Services and Veterinary Street Outreach Services SOS & Vet SOS are innovative outreach services of the San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium which address the unique problems of homeless individuals.

Traveling in a medical van to sites throughout San Francisco, the dedicated SOS team of doctors, nurses, outreach workers, and volunteers creates “clinics without walls” at soup kitchens, on city streets, under freeway overpasses, and in parks. By going directly to homeless people - meeting them on their own turf - the SOS team builds relationships of trust, and breaks down the barriers that keep

homeless people from the care they need and deserve. SOS provides on-site preventive and urgent health care, connection to a medical home for long-term primary care, linkage to other resources (mental health, substance recovery, dental services, legal support, etc.), assistance with housing and benefits applications, distribution of health and hygiene supplies, and transportation assistance to over a thousand homeless San Franciscans every year. VET SOS services are provided by volunteer veterinarians and veterinary technicians through the use of a specially equipped mobile outreach van. VET SOS provides veterinary exams, basic veterinary procedures, vaccinations, referrals & transportation for free spay/neuter surgery, information about service animals in rental housing and responsible pet ownership, and health care information & referrals to their homeless humans. VET SOS uses a specially outfitted van to provide its outreach and veterinary services in selected areas of San Francisco that are inhabited by homeless individuals with companion animals.

We loved seeing so many familiar faces (and meeting some new ones!) at our recent Vet SOS clinic. Meet a few of the cuties we served:

✨ Obsydian came in for his first adult booster vaccines after completing his puppy series with us last year and getting neutered at a partner organization. We love watching our patients grow up!

✨ Manchas & Toby, an adorable sibling duo, completed their 3rd and final puppy vaccine appointment before racing off to continue their adventures together.

✨ Cywil, a sweet 13-year-old chihuahua mix, visits us monthly for support with mobility issues. Senior pets hold such a special place in our hearts!

Thank you to everyone who trusts us with your pets’ care at each Vet SOS clinic. Seeing these happy faces is why we do what we do 🐶🐾

Thank you to our amazing Vet SOS community for your help keeping us stocked with pet food & needed supplies for our patients🐾✨

A special shout out to new Vet SOS donor, , for their recent donation of pet food 🍗🥩

Vet SOS is in need of more pet food, leashes, & harnesses! Many of the pets we serve rely on this food as a primary source of nutrition, so keeping lots of options in stock is very important. We welcome new or gently used leashes and harnesses of all sizes.

✨Please consider donating or sharing this post.✨

Your support helps us keep the pets of unhoused San Franciscans healthy, comfortable, and by their families’ side.🩵🐾

Support our sock drive! ✨🧦

As part of street outreach, SOS does its best to provide every patient with a pair of clean socks. We’re currently running low and welcome any contributions of adult-sized socks to include in our health & hygiene kits.

If you’re able to donate socks, or other items to help keep our patients warm and dry while living on the streets, please reach out to us. Every contribution helps us keep our patients comfortable and cared for.

Thank you! 🙏🏽💙

SOS sends a special shout out to SFCCC’s amazing AHEC Scholars Program who helped put together hygiene kits for our patients—over the weekend! These kits not only provide essential items for our unhoused patients but also serve as a meaningful icebreaker to
build trust and connection with new folks we encounter living on the streets.

The AHEC Scholars Program supports students in health professions through hands-on, community-based experiences and training focused on serving underserved populations. Through interdisciplinary learning and volunteer work, scholars gain the skills to improve access to quality care and address real community health needs.

Thank you, AHEC Scholars! 💙✨

One rainy December day, a client popped into Vet SOS clinic with the tiniest surprise... a 0.8-pound kitten who absolutely stole our hearts🥹🌧️

Appropriately named “Tiny”, he fit in the palm of our hands— just a little fluff ball with big eyes and an even bigger personality!

Since then, Tiny has been the most dedicated little patient— coming back each month for his kitten vaccine series, deworming, and flea preventatives like a champ.💉✨

By his second visit, he had more than doubled in size. By his third, he was a whole 3 pounds of growing boy energy.

Watching him grow into a strong, thriving kitten has been such a joy for our team. Swipe to see his transformation through each visit!📸🩵

A special shoutout for our newest collaboration with UCSF- the amazing nurses with their Roving Community Health Initiative (RCHI)! 🚐🩺💉

Together we recently teamed up to provide essential health services at .institute , including STI screenings, rapid testing, vaccinations, and wound care. ✨

We’re so grateful for our partners at UCSF and Felton because collectively we show up for our community and ensure our patients receive the care they need and deserve. 🚐✨

Meet Rebel, a sweet senior poodle mix who recently came to Vet SOS clinic for a little TLC - some tummy trouble, an ear cleaning, and a sanitary shave🩵🩺

He handled everything like a total gentleman and even showed off his adorable “begging” trick for us (don’t miss the video🐾)

As a finishing touch, Rebel was gifted this super cute jacket, and while his owner isn’t pictured, we have to say... it perfectly matched their outfit that day. Clearly, they are made for each other!💙💫

We also wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to the veterinarians who joined our wonderful volunteer team for this month’s clinics. We needed some DVM’s to sign up & because a few did, more pets like Rebel will be able to access all the care they need and deserve!✨🤗
