This week’s feature is IB Pet’s owner and founder, Lori Smith! 🐾

🐾 Q: Why did Lori start IB Pet?
A: Tanner and Cali, Lori’s Golden Retrievers, were her inspiration. When Tanner struggled with skin and tummy issues, Lori discovered how much a healthy diet could help. She wanted to create a place where pet parents could find better food options for their dogs and cats—so in 2009, IB Pet was born. 💛

🐾 Q: What is Lori’s favorite food or treat to feed Whisky?
A: A LickiMat Yoggie Pot! Lori stuffs it with raw or lightly cooked meals, tops it with his favorite freeze-dried treats, and freezes it for a cool enrichment activity. 🐶❄️

🐾Q: What is your favorite activity to do with Whisky?
A: Whisky LOVES his ball—he’s so obsessed that Lori sometimes has to hide it! Playing fetch is the highlight of his day. Their go-to toy is a Chuckit! ball launcher, though Whisky will chase almost any ball. His favorites are the Playology-scented balls or a classic Chuckit! ball. 🎾🐾

🐾 If your pet had a job at IB Pet, what would their role be?

I have two chihuahua sisters, Jelly Bean and Mrs. Beasley. Bean would be in charge of trying out new toys bc she LOVES a toy with a squeaker or a crinkle. Beasley would be in charge of testing out new treats. She hasn’t come across a treat she didn’t love.

🐾 What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?

I live on the island, but don’t go to the beach. I go to Disneyland more than the beach!

🐾 How do you unwind after a long day?

I love to relax on the couch and snuggle with my two chihuahuas, Bean & Beasley, and catch up on my shows or watch a movie. They are such snuggle bugs!

Imperial Beach's Neighborhood Pet Supply Shop

About Us

Our two golden retrievers, Tanner and Cali, are the reason we have our store today! From the time our first golden Tanner was a puppy he suffered from ear infections, hot spots and stomach problems. Following countless trips to the vet with no resolution, I started researching things on my own. I soon learned that most of Tanner's health problems could be fixed with a better diet. I began feeding Tanner a species appropriate diet and he started to improve immediately! I was hooked! I wanted to learn all I could about pet food and nutrition. It didn't take long for me to transition both our dogs (and our cats) to a better diet that consisted of raw meat, bones, fruits and vegetables. On this type of diet Tanner thrived! Today he is happy and healthy at 9 years old and is free of the ailments he once suffered.
