Avi had a checkered career. He was taken in not once - but 5 times - by SLCo within 8 months. The last time they called UPP to "come get him"! This lovely tall boy had a penchant for trying to commit dogicide - running through wire fences, tearing the skin off his body, and starving himself to death. After 2.5 years with UPP he went to our sister rescue group in MT, Paws to Peaks Rescue, where he was adopted by a lovely couple with a female GSP for him to bond with.
It was a great match until his sister died earlier this year.
Enter Brooklyn in Feb. 2020. Brooklyn was a favorite in all the daycare/boarding facilities in Salt Lake and with foster mom, Lynne. She was easy. She spent every minute looking for birds or crawling on someone's lap. Gina (Paws to Peaks) thought she'd be a great companion for newly-widowed Avi so she went to MT last week and her new parents met her there with Avi. They're going to be a great pair terrorizing the birds in the PNW. 😍
Many thanks to the SL daycare/boarding facilities for caring for both while they were with us: Old Farm Pet Resort, Camp Bow Wow South Salt Lake, The Dog Lodge, The Dog Den, Utah Dog Park. You all rock❣️

From April at Camp Bow Wow South Salt Lake This week is Canine Addison’s Awarness week.
Our very own Gooseberry adopted from Utah's perfect pointers has Addison’s disease. With treatment dogs with Addison’s can live a normal and full life. Below is information on symptoms.
So long 2021! I won't miss you one bit! 2020 was tough - but at least we could look at it as "a challenge". 2021 was just a major pain.
What better way to send 2021 on its way than to celebrate our last intake from December 2020 (one very long year ago)!
Many of you will remember the Dec. 2020 arrival of Amar (top 2 pictures). I was so horrified when I picked him up that I called our wonderful vet, Kay, to meet me when I got home & examine him. He literally was a "bag of bones". I'm used to intaking lean dogs but Amar gave a whole new meaning to the term "thin". To top it off he was fear aggressive with my dogs and wanted to eat my cats. And he was still a teenager with no indoor training.
Within a month he'd gained 10 lbs, reconciled himself with the herd at UPP (I tossed him outside with a muzzle and let him deal with it) and decided cats weren't a food group.
Then........ in May....... the perfect couple with their perfect dog came from NV to adopt him. We're 99% sure they had his brother. Yes! His real brother! They'd adopted their dog as a pup the year before from the shelter that called us to come and get Amar. Same age......... same appearance........ same area. It couldn't be a coincidence! Fortunately their boy was beautifully trained and I was sure they could work the same magic on our boy.
Fast forward 8 months.......... Amar is a happy, very content family member and a responsible addition to society. ❤ He goes hiking in the mountains, has developed a lovely set of muscles, and totally loves his parents and brother.
Despite a particularly challenging year I'm feeling very grateful. I'm thankful for all the wonderful homes our dogs are in. I'm grateful for all of the adopters who keep us updated about their dogs - both those who are still with them and those who've died in loving homes. And I'm so amazed and humbled by all our supporters who continue to help throughout the years with donations, fostering, veterinary assistance and emotional support. Thank you to the daycare & boarding facilities that help us accommodate our dogs until they're adopted - Old Farm Pet Resort, Second Chance for Homeless Pets, Camp Bow Wow South Salt Lake, The Dog Lodge and The Dog Den. This is a unique community that we're so grateful to belong to.

Traeger was pretty much a noisy baby when he became a Perfect Pointer with entropian in both eyes thanks to a concerned neighbor and Camp Bow Wow. He attended their puppy classes, chased the cats at Casa UPP and became a responsible young man. Flash forward two years and he's o-so-handsome and loving life in WA. Thank you April Prado and Camp Bow Wow. 🥰
