Choosing the right veterinary care makes all the difference for both pets and their people 🐾💛

At Vintage Vet, we pride ourselves on creating a calm, low-stress environment where pets can feel safe, comfortable, and cared for from the moment they arrive. Our space is thoughtfully designed to reduce anxiety, and our experienced, compassionate staff takes the time to build trust with every pet, moving at their pace and honoring their individual needs.

We believe great care goes beyond medicine. It’s about patience, communication, and genuine connection. Here, your pet isn’t rushed or overlooked. They’re treated like family every step of the way.

We know how scary going to the vet can be for both pet and owner and we hope we can ease some of those anxieties.

Behind the Medicine: Nimbus’s Story

Nimbus is part of the Vintage family, as his mom is one of our team members. He presented on October 10th for acute hind limb lameness. He was sedated for radiographs and bloodwork. Due to his lack of reflexes and pain response, he was immediately referred to a specialty hospital for a full neurologic evaluation.

Nimbus’s evaluation revealed neurologic deficits consistent with an injury to the spinal cord in the middle to lower back. He was anesthetized for an MRI of the spine, which confirmed herniation of intervertebral disc material causing compression and injury to the spinal cord. This explained Nimbus’s difficulty walking.

Given the severity of his condition, Nimbus underwent emergency neurosurgery to decompress the spinal cord. Surgery was successful, and he recovered from anesthesia without complications.

Nimbus spent the majority of his recovery hospitalized close to his mom, where he could be closely monitored and medicated. During the first few weeks, improvement was minimal, with only small glimpses of progress. Over time, he slowly began to regain sensation and use of his hind limbs.

A structured physical therapy program was implemented at SOAR, including use of the underwater treadmill and laser therapy. After several long months of persistent and loving care, Nimbus now walks into the clinic on his own, although still a little wobbly, gaining strength and stability each day. He is happy and overall pain-free.

This is a tribute to a gentle soul, a resilient family, and the power of a captured moment.

In early December, Midas was diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma. While the weeks that followed were filled with uncertainty, his family chose to fill them with life, cherishing every heartbeat. Just two days after his diagnosis, Midas visited our Paws and Claus event, where his family won a raffle for a hand-painted portrait.

Though Midas crossed the rainbow bridge at the end of December, leaving behind memories of his soft demeanor and soulful eyes, his presence returned home today. My husband, Octavious Gillespie, completed his portrait—a gift of love and a window back to Midas’s sweetest days. I am deeply moved by Octavious’s talent and his ability to give this family a piece of Midas to hold onto forever.

Thank you for sharing your sweet boy with us, even if just for a short while. Dr. Millner and team

During the colder months, watch for dry or irritated skin, cracked paws and noses from cold air and deicers, changes in appetite or energy, and increased joint stiffness, especially in senior pets.

Indoor heating can also contribute to dehydration, so make sure fresh water is always available. Staying aware of these seasonal changes helps keep pets comfortable, healthy, and happy all winter long.

"Philo" : This little guy came to us last year as a 20 pound, 8 week old puppy. Today, that same "little" guy came in for his neuter at 12 months, 111 pounds. A few things have not changed...his SWEET temperament and his love for his favorite stuffy dog. He did a great job today. You know who else did a great job?? MY TEAM....for lifting him while he was sleeping!

"The doctor was great. I know our boys felt safe and loved that she got down on the floor with them. Fun bellies and behind-the-ears are their favorite spots.
Can’t wait to continue with the same vet all the time. Not a new one every visit."

Don’t let the cold fool you! We want you to be able to cuddle your furry companion all winter long!

Fleas don’t disappear in the winter. They can survive indoors and hitch rides on clothing, other pets, or wildlife, continuing to cause itching and discomfort even during colder months.

Keeping pets on year-round flea prevention helps protect their skin, coat, and overall health. A little prevention now saves a lot of scratching later 💛
