TIME TO FILE THE LAWSUIT against FRONT STREET ! SHARE!!
Fix Front Street has encouraged plaintiffs to proceed with filing a lawsuit. We previously paused escalation in good faith based on a promised reset by City Manager Maraskhisa Smith. Instead of a RESET there is just more of the same.

Interim Director Ryan Hinderman uses the cease and desist to avoid answering hard questions, citing potential legal action. Now he will be the new Director. So much for an indpependent, reform minded leader to RESET Front Street! Clearly it’s time to file the lawsuit!!

Please email City Manager and ask why the City of Sacramento has ignored the cease-and-desist letter issued in February outlining serious allegations of ongoing violations of law at Front Street Shelter.

Instead of intake and care, animals are being turned away. Their failure to accept cats and kittens for over 6 years has caused a huge overpopulation explosion, litters of unwanted kittens are suffering and starving, left to have kittens of their own.

Animals are left to live in squalor, locked in cages, or tied to trees with no food or water in homeless camps, reports of this cruelty, neglect and abuse are ignored by Front Street.

No More excuses, time to get LOUD for ANIMALS. Over six years this has continued unabated. EMAIL the City Manager Smith at [email protected]

See the attached Cease and Desist for more information.

Animals need your help! We are asking the public, volunteers, fosters, rescues, lost-and-found admins if you have firsthand knowledge or documentation of any of the following:

1. Stray animals being turned away (cats or dogs)
2. Rescue groups being denied the ability to pull animals
3. Delays or failure to provide timely veterinary care
4. Inadequate food, water, housing, or humane conditions complaints ignored
5. Retaliation against volunteers, fosters, staff, or advocates for speaking up
6. Failure to properly investigate cruelty or neglect cases
7. Euthanasia of healthy or adoptable animals
8. Failure to follow mandatory holding periods (minimum 72 hours unless medically urgent)
9. Release of unaltered animals without proper protocols

Screenshots, emails, intake denials, photos, veterinary records, and public records all matter.

🚨 SACRAMENTO NEEDS ANSWERS RE NEW FRONT STREET DIRECTOR HIRE — IMMEDIATELY 🚨City Manager Maraskeshia Smith must explain how a promised “RESET” at Front Street Animal Shelter aligns with the hiring of longtime Front Street employee Ryan Hinderman.

This hire calls into question the integrity and intent of the recruitment process. The public was told this process would bring new leadership, new direction, and real reform.

Instead, this hire raises a serious and unavoidable question:
How does a nationwide search for reform result in leadership drawn from within the same operational system the community has been trying to change for years?

📧 Contact City Manager Maraskeshia Smith:
[email protected]
Ask her directly: Was this process truly designed to bring in independent reform — or was it structured in a way that ultimately preserved the existing system? Please be civil and respectful in communications!
Because from the outside, the gap between what was promised (“reset”) and what is being delivered (“the same mismanagement”) cannot be ignored.

This is not a minor staffing decision. It is the leadership of a taxpayer-funded public shelter responsible for intake, care, and life-or-death outcomes for vulnerable animals.

This concern is heightened by the fact that Ryan Hinderman has long been part of Front Street’s internal structure — including communications and management functions during a period when the shelter has faced sustained public criticism over transparency, intake decisions, and operational practices.

City leadership owes the public a clear explanation:
What were the actual criteria for selecting leadership?
How does this appointment represent change rather than continuity?

And how does the City define “reset” in measurable terms?
Sacramento residents who care about these animals are not asking for more of the same old spin and excuses. We are asking for transparency, accountability, and a clear explanation of how this decision was made.

6/11/26 ATTENTION City of Sacramento! FIX FRONT STREET NOW! We are done waiting! We were patient. We gave you the benefit of the doubt. But clearly, we have not seen the RESET promised by the new City Manager. Animals lives should matter! NO MORE DERELICTION OF DUTY!

Community members and advocates, eventhough failed Director Zimmerman is gone, do you think anything has significantly changed at Front Street? We don't, to the contrary, its just more of the same. Talk is CHEAP! We need action! Now!

Please email Sacramento City Manager Maraskeshia Smith and ask her to finish the RESET at Front Street she promised: [email protected]

Please share this post with at least THREE animal lovers!!!
Please ask her to STOP the dysfunction! Please share your stories. Please be civil and polite, and ask her to step up and help RESET Front Street.

Read the whole story here:
Replacing failed leaders with more of the same is not a reset if the same broken culture and dysfunction continues:
The cease-and-desist notice regarding violations of state and local laws has been ignored.
The Animal Well-Being Commission continues to face interference from Front Street staff with support from the City.
Final Plea — a simple lifesaving euthanasia notification program looks to have been purposely sabotaged by FS's interim Director who BTW supported and aligned with former Director Zimmerman.

This sabotage resulted in the unnecesary death of innocent animals who should have been protected and risked the safety of good hearted citizens who should have never been allowed to adopte animals that should have been for Rescue partners only.

Violations of law continue: friendly cats and kittens are turned away even when kennels sit empty, suffering horribly, and breeding out of control in our communities; calls regarding stray roaming dogs are ignored.
Adoptable and treatable animals are still euthanized regularly with little to no notice; volunteers and fosters remain fearful of retaliation.
The hiring process for a new Director is fatally flawed;the audit confirmed Front Street was operationally dysfunctional in almost every department.
Yet little has changed. We need a true RESET at Front Street Animal Shelter — now.

The City needs to hire an independent, reform-minded new Director capable and willing to reject the corrupt and unlawful policies pushed by mainstream animal welfare organizations and advanced by Front Street and the City of Sacramento.

We need lawful intake, massive community spay and neuter programs, transparent euthanasia policies, and a shelter that serves animals and the public instead of protecting continued negligence and malfeasance.

Advocates, will you stand up for the animals? We are asking the community to stand with us. If Front Street failed you, turned you away, ignored you, retaliated against you, or left an animal to suffer or die — we want to hear from you. Please share your stories here or confidentially at [email protected].

Will you demand the RESET today? ,
