The amount of comments I see calling alligator gar an invasive species is alarming. They are native to the U.S. and have been for over 100 million years! Protect your native species!

Contrary to their name, and not at all what you'd think. The bristles on your bristlenose pleco are actually the only soft part other than its belly.

I was looking through some old photos from my fishing club in Germany—the first club I ever joined by choice. At the time, I was the youngest in my state to pass the fisheries exam, and joining the club was my first step in to volunteer work.
Fishing in Germany is very different from the U.S. You not only do you need to complete a 40-hour course just to get a license, but there's also a much bigger focus on being a steward of the water. Correctly identifying fish, casting technique, and even properly dispatching fish are considered essential knowledge. The trophies I’m holding weren’t for catching big bass, but for things like casting accuracy and passing aquaculture quizzes. And yes, they gave a 16-year-old a bottle of champagne with my prize—definitely not something that would happen in the US either.
