Join us for a q***r + trans volunteer day and social at the sanctuary, hosted by Compost Kin Club! 🏳️‍🌈🧑🏼‍🌾

Only Sunshine Sanctuary is a q***r run animal sanctuary in Elverta CA (Sacramento County). While animals are at the center of our mission, we also work hard to foster relationships within our local communities, especially within the q***r + trans community. We believe that animal welfare is directly tied to human welfare, and the health of our planet.

Come out to the sanctuary to hang out with rescued farm animals, learn about compost animal manure and meet other like spirited humans while doing so! Be prepared to work and get your hands dirty.

Our next rabbit adoption event is Sunday, June 7th from 10am-2pm at the Pet Food Express on Freeport boulevard.

Come meet Barney! We will just be taking applications for him on that day. We won’t be sending him home with anyone yet (the vet made a mistake and forgot to give him his first vaccine dose, so his full vaccine scheduled won’t be complete), but this will be a great opportunity to come meet him and see if he would be the right fit for your family! We’ve been so busy, we completely forgot to give you an update on sweet bunny Barney!

Last Monday, Barney was given the all-clear and was successfully neutered! 🥳 He also received his first shot of the RHDV2 vaccine. In about 2 weeks (21 days from first dose) he will receive his booster, and then he’ll be all ready to be adopted out 🥹🥹

Barney will be ready to start meeting possible adopters soon, and we will be taking applications to adopt him at our next adoption event on June 7th! 🥹🩷

Today is Troopers 14th birthday!

He was abandoned in a horse stall, he was underweight, had worms, mites, and fleas. The breeder bred his parent and would sell the puppies. He has a hip deformity that we presume made him unsellable is why he was left in the horse stall

If you have ever been to the sanctuary you have been greeted by him. He loves everyone he meets. He is the goofiest fluff ball.

His age is starting to show. He has doggy vertigo and his world is dizzy. He has started to show early signs of dementia. He is still a happy guy ready to meet all the guest

A few members of our team went and saw the new movie “The Sheep Detectives” in theaters last night. It is a must-see for sheep lovers. We were laughing and crying through the whole thing🥹🐑🐏

There are countless movies about dog companions. But farm animals are hardly ever portrayed as companions in Hollywood. In this movie, the sheep are all treated as companions, and there are a lot of really great vegetarian/vegan messages throughout. It was really nice to see sheep given this platform to be seen the way we see them — as friends 🥰

Disclaimer: This movie is owned by Amazon if you boycott. We also actively boycott and hate that Amazon owns this, but we broke our own rules because we felt like this movie has such an important/relevant message for us and our sanctuary.

Trigger warning: There are definitely scenes that will be triggering to some. We won’t share details here, but we recommend you looking into it before seeing the movie (it’s really just one scene in particular.)
