Good morning everyone! It is very cold here, so everyone is snuggled up with the heater on full blast and a heat lamp. It’s warm and toasty in the kitten house kittens turn six weeks old tomorrow, and they are getting very playful and rambunctious! Everyone is using the litter box, and has started to try wet kitten food. Have a great Monday!

Happy Thursday, everyone! Lots of folks asking about how the waitlist works, how much a kitten costs, how long is the wait, how does a kitten get to a new home, etc. I decided to make a post to answer the most frequently asked questions. Of course, if you have a question, please reach out! We would love to hear from you!

- How does the waitlist work? Just let us know you'd like to be placed on the waitlist for a kitten and...voila!...you're on the waitlist!

-How long is the waitlist? That's a tricky question. The more specific you are about what you're looking for, the longer it takes to potentially adopt a kitten. Why? Kitten moms and dads don't take special orders...lol. For example, it could take awhile if you have your heart set on a solid cinnamon male, etc.

-What happens when a kitten or retired cat becomes available? We will start going down the waitlist and contacting interested families. At the time a family selects a kitten (or retiree), they will receive a contract to fill out. Following the contract, families are asked to place a $300 deposit. This is non-refundable but can be transferred to another kitten should something come up. This deposit holds the kitten and goes toward the final kitten adoption fee.

-When can I pick up my kitten? Kittens leave to go to new homes between 14-16 weeks of age.

-I live far away! Can I still get a kitten from Moss Lane? YES! We will help you find a reputable flight nanny to bring your kitten or a ground transport pet courier. You can also come pick up your kitten.

-How much does a kitten cost? Can I breed my kitten when it grows up? Our kittens are usually in the $2500-3000 range, and all kittens are place on a spay/neuter contract. That means we do not allow our kittens to be bred. Should you be interested in breeding Oriental Shorthairs, we require that you show in either TICA or CFA and produce at least one titled cat (Champion or higher). Altered (spayed or neutered) cats CAN be shown! We love when our kitten parents show their cats!

-What registry do you use? We register all of our cats with TICA (The International Cat Association). However, they are all eligible to be registered with CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) as well.

-I want a kitten with HUGE ears! Do you have those? The extreme Orientals that are all over social media aren't the standard that we strive for in the USA. We breed for a balanced, elegant, healthy cat. With extra extreme ears often comes smaller eyes and an off-balance look. That said, many of our cats have European ancestry, and those ancestors sometimes have the giant ears. Occasionally, an extreme-eared kitten may pop out of a litter, but it's not what we are trying to achieve.

-Why choose a Moss Lane kitten? Our kittens are well-socialized, excellent examples of the Oriental Shorthair breed. We breed to achieve the standard, and we show our cats to obtain titles. All kittens are from health tested parents (Wisdom Panel). Each kitten goes home with first vaccines, deworming, microchipped, TICA registration, and with a 1-year health guarantee against genetic defect and 30 days of free pet insurance.

Have more questions! Let me know! I'm happy to answer!
