Ok, so to clarify, there are 2 does running together with each having a single baby. Like goats deer can have multiple but it's fairly rare in the wild that 2 fawn will make it to maturity. It's just too much of a physical burden on the mother so if one is even slightly weaker does will abandon the weaker so she can make it to the following breeding season.
We have at least 1 stag on our slice of heaven and minimally I've seen 4 distinct does and 2 fawn. We keep some areas tall so these babies and their mothers have the opportunity to grow up in a safe and chemical free area. With goats you never need to worry about weeds because they love them. Choosing to not use chemicals, choosing to mow in certain areas to keep a bit of the wild space is what helps maintain ecosystems and we NEED these ecosystems.
I am Chippewa and Cherokee and I grew up learning that the balance of nature comes first. It's Creator's design that we should find balance and harmony. It's central to our culture to give back to nature and honor Creator's blessings on our land no matter where we live out our lives.
This morning started rough with a call from my local buddy that bought chickens from me that the dogs that killed her first flock, killed the flock I sold her. It truly breaks my heart and I've spent several hours just trying to console her and help get her place cleaned up again. Coming home to see these beautiful mothers with their stunning babes was exactly what my heart needed. To be able to come back home to such a peaceful wonder has me rejoicing with my Creator's blessings on my farm.
Walking with nature, with Creator, with purpose and intention of honoring the land's bounty is a thing indigenous people live for. It's surely what I love for. It nurtures me back to health with every step, with every breathe, and enforces my values and people's teachings. It truly does cause my heart to overflow with happiness and peace.
No matter where you live, what our how you believe, it's my hope you find peace and joy in your life today. Live simply, live humbly, live free, and live in peace.
