STORY TIME. LONG STORY.
My sister's house has made it safely to Roswell. For those who don't know, my sister put a house on my property in October of '23. My dad had dementia and was with me for awhile. When Becky came down from Oregon, she took over his care again.
When my Dad passed the first of June, Becky decided this isolated country life was not for her so she made plans to move into town..Now, on to the s**t show..
This mobile home moving company is the only game in town and they know getting someone else from another town to do the job would cost, at least, double. Of course, my sister had no idea of the "Keystone Cops" episode that was about to invade her life.
Before they showed up to actually do the work, they were almost impossible to get ahold of and did not return calls for weeks or not at all. Trying to get insurance and bonding information out of them was like pulling teeth and, when she managed to get an appointment set up with them to look at her home, they were late. 2 days late. No phone calls, no nothing. Same when they showed up to prep the house.
They DID show up on the correct day to move the house and were only four hours late.
So, cut to Monday. They were late and, when they finally moved her house off the pad, they only went about 200 feet when the tires on the back axel under the trailer (there are four axles) CAME OFF. They repaired that issue and started moving again. They went about 15 feet and only one CAME OFF this time. Same axle.
Repaired that. Started up again. As they were driving down the dirt road on my property that goes past my back pasture and meets up with Lily Rd, the jack on the trailer tongue started dragging. Or should I say, burrowing? It looks like someone is planning to lay pipe or something on my land AND on LILY rd which is gravel.
I was taking pictures as he went by on the County Road (Lily) that bisects my property and noticed the tongue dragging. As I got around him to stop him, I noticed a tire off the back axle was gone AGAIN.
So, stop and repair again. With all their tom foolery, I decided I was going to watch them get through the cattle guard off of my property. So, while I was waiting for them to repair the tire once more, I took a gander at the pad where my sister's home had been.
WTF!? They had CUT the electrical lines, the sewer line and the water line. They did NOT disconnect them at the professionally installed disconnects. Not only that, but they had left them all open and exposed to the elements. Do you know why he did not disconnect them correctly? BECAUSE HE FORGOT THE TOOLS TO DO SO.
Back to the mobile home. Tire fixed. Another attempt is made. They made it through the cattle guard and, you guessed it, tire came off. But now, the axle is broke and the tires on the third axle are camped out (angled out at the bottom). Now they have to back the mobile through the cattle guard and leave it overnight so they can replace the axle in the morning. They got through the cattleguard fine but paid no attention as they almost jacknifed the truck in reverse and ran over my decorative yucca plants.
To make a very long story as short as possible, I confronted the guy in charge about the damage to my property (another mobile home cannot be placed without extensive repairs to the hookups) and, after trying to play it off as "that is how it's done," he agreed to make the repairs and pay to have the electricity rerun.
We shall see. I spent yesterday on the phone with the Manufactured Housing Division, NM department of transportation, the Port Authority, and the State Police while the company finally was able to move my sister's home. Today I will call the BBB.
