”The famous Italian diver Enzo Maiorca dove into the sea of Syracuse and was talking to his daughter Rossana who was aboard the boat. Ready to go in, he felt something slightly hit his back. He turned and saw a dolphin. Then he realized that the dolphin did not want to play but to express something. The animal dove and Enzo followed.

At a depth of about 12 meters, trapped in an abandoned net, there was another dolphin. Enzo quickly asked his daughter to grab the diving knives. Soon, the two of them managed to free the dolphin, which, at the end of the ordeal, emerged, issued an "almost human cry" (describes Enzo). (A dolphin can stay under water for up to 10 minutes, then it drowns.)

The released dolphin was helped to the surface by Enzo, Rosana and the other dolphin. That’s when the surprise came: she was pregnant!

The male circled them, and then stopped in front of Enzo, touched his cheek (like a kiss), in a gesture of gratitude and then they both swam off.

Enzo Maiorca ended his speech by saying: “Until man learns to respect and speak to the animal world, he can never know his true role on Earth." ~ Vangelis.”

The "Dad of the Year" award goes to this flathead catfish on the Black River in North Carolina. A sudden drop in water level caused the fish to be stranded at the base of a rotting tree. I wondered why it didn't leave as the water receded-until I saw the pile of pink eggs by its tail. I realized the fish was trapped by staying to care for its offspring. It's common for males to watch over eggs and defend them from potential predators-and, in some cases, even from the mother. Of all the things I've seen in swamps, this was one of the most striking examples of survival.

Cypress swamps are difficult places to thrive. Seasonal fluctuations of water shape these ecosystems and the residents that call them home. Although I didn't stick around to see what happened to this father, I was encouraged to see that the water levels did come up just a few days later.

“This is my dad. Currently, I am 33 weeks along; pregnant, alone, with a 5-year-old. I’m so grateful that he helped me move today, all day in fact, without a single complaint. When I was an infant, his fought for custody of me and won, thus single handedly raising me.

He is the first and probably the last person to whom I can completely depend as I do on him. My actions have not been praiseworthy in several instances, yet he has always stood beside me irrespective of my wrong decisions. His love does not have any conditions and I am honored to introduce myself as his daughter. If I can be half the parent that he has been then I have succeeded.”

On the side of a bustling highway, Maria stood proudly beside her van, her heart full of purpose and determination. Every morning, she loaded her vehicle with fresh fruits, bottled water, and other essentials. Her mission was simple yet profound: to provide much-needed aid to those traveling along this busy route.
Maria's journey began years ago when she herself had been stranded on this very highway. It was a scorching summer day, and her car had broken down miles from the nearest town. Exhausted and thirsty, she had felt a sense of helplessness creeping in. Then, out of nowhere, a kind stranger had appeared, offering her water and assistance. That act of kindness had stayed with her, planting a seed of gratitude and inspiration.
Now, Maria was paying it forward. Every day, she set up her stand by the roadside, offering free supplies to weary travelers. Her small act of kindness made a world of difference to those she encountered. Truck drivers, road trippers, and even the occasional cyclist would stop by, their faces lighting up with relief and gratitude.

Maria's reputation grew, and soon she became a beacon of hope for many. Her generosity was not limited to just food and water. She listened to people's stories, offered words of encouragement, and sometimes even provided a helping hand with minor car troubles. Her tattoos, which often caught the eyes of passersby, were symbols of her own journey and the strength she had gained along the way.

One day, a young couple with a baby stopped by her stand. They had run out of supplies and were anxious about continuing their journey. Maria welcomed them warmly, providing them with water, bananas, and apples. She could see the stress melt away from their faces as they thanked her profusely.

As the sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Maria packed up her van, feeling a deep sense of fulfillment. She knew that her small stand on the side of the highway was making a big impact. It was a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness could ripple out, touching lives in ways one could never imagine.

Maria's story was a testament to the power of generosity and human connection. Through her daily efforts, she proved that no matter how busy or chaotic life could get, there was always room for compassion. And in doing so, she inspired countless others to find their own ways to give back, creating a chain of kindness that stretched far beyond the highway.

It was a quiet evening in the kitchen, but for Luna, the family cat, the moment was almost spiritual. The warm glow of the oven reflected her wide, curious eyes as she stared at the pizza baking inside. The bubbling cheese and sizzling crust seemed to hold her in a trance. Her reflection on the oven’s glass created an illusion of another cat—a silent companion sharing this contemplative moment.

Luna had always been different. While her siblings chased balls of yarn or napped in the sunlight, she was a thinker. Tonight, as the rich aroma of melting cheese filled the air, she questioned the mysteries of her existence. Why did humans create such delicious things? Did they know the joy their actions brought to her life?

Her owner peeked into the kitchen and chuckled, snapping a photo of Luna’s intense concentration. "She's mesmerized by the pizza again," they said with a laugh. But to Luna, it wasn’t just about the pizza. It was about belonging, about the love shared within this home.

As the timer beeped, Luna blinked and broke her gaze. Her owner opened the oven and pulled out the pizza. With a warm smile, they offered her a tiny, cooked piece of crust—a gesture that felt like a gift of gratitude for her quiet companionship. In that moment, Luna understood her place in the world. She wasn’t just a bystander. She was loved, cherished, and, in her own unique way, a vital part of the family.

Diary of a Father and daughter: So today I got “The Call”….
“Dad it’s weird but think I pooped my pants!” So I rush to school take her a change of un**es, put the old ones in a bag and rush back to my conference call and threw the bag in the kitchen trash.

Few hours later she calls and I had to put a very important work meeting I’m hosting on hold which I never do and she says “Dad it happened again”….

I’m confused and very annoyed because I’m super busy… I yell “just wipe your butt better then stuff toilet paper in the back of your pants and I’ll have to call you back in an hour!” and I hang up.

A few minutes later it hits me… omg!!! I rush to the trash to dig out and inspect the un**es from earlier and scream “that’s blood not poop!!”

I interrupt my project meeting and explain to my banking colleagues that i’m VERY sorry but I have to go! I’m racing to the school while calling them telling the nurse to “go find my child!”. Speeding and having a panic attack because my child called me for help and I just “left her to die on the battlefield”!

I run in the office and she’s standing there very calm looking at me and says “Dad…. I officially started my first…” and I stopped her and said “I already know Avi… it hit me a few minutes after I hung up on you”

The stress of raising a daughter
Later on she says “don’t I get something like when a tooth falls out”

So I snuck off to the store and when she got out of the shower I told her “The Period Fairy” brought you something

This morning, I noticed a cleaning worker placing a garbage can back to the side of the elderly woman’s house and I saw her speak to that woman. Upon speaking with the lady, I learnt that she has a limited physical capability and this gentleman helps her every week. A simple trash looks very insignificant, to you or me, and means everything to her. It is good to keep in mind that little acts like these will not make you change the whole world but definitely will change her world. “Excuse me, sir, but I apologize for not getting your name, you are really great!”

THEY WAITED FOR THE GARBAGE TRUCK EVERY MONDAY—AND THEN SOMETHING CHANGED
Every Monday, like clockwork, my twins would be waiting out front for the garbage truck. Jesse in his dinosaur pajama bottoms, Lila in her favorite glittery tutu, both barefoot and bouncing with excitement. And every Monday, Rashad and Theo—our sanitation crew—would show up like rockstars.

It started small. A honk here, a high five there. Then they let the twins pull the lever once, and that sealed the deal. From then on, Monday mornings were sacred.
But then came that Monday.

I don’t remember much. I’d been feeling off all weekend—lightheaded, shaky—but figured it was just exhaustion. I was running on fumes trying to juggle work, bills, and two four-year-olds solo since their dad had taken a temporary contract out of town. I must’ve blacked out sometime after putting out the trash.
What I didn’t know—what still sends chills down my spine—is that Jesse and Lila had gone outside like usual… but I never followed.
When Rashad and Theo pulled up and saw the twins standing there alone, barefoot, crying, something must’ve clicked. They jumped out of the truck, didn’t hesitate. One stayed with the kids while the other ran up to the door, banged, and when no one answered, forced it open.
They found me passed out cold on the kitchen floor.

They called 911, got help on the way, and even managed to find my phone to call my husband. By the time the ambulance arrived, they had Lila wrapped in Theo’s safety vest and Jesse riding shotgun in the truck to distract him.
I came to in the ER a few hours later.
The first thing I asked was, “Where are my babies?”

The nurse smiled and said, “With their heroes.”
And just before she walked out, she added something that made my breath catch

Today on my way home from work I found this kid in the middle of the road. I looked to see if he belonged to anyone, if he had other dogs with him... Nothing... He was alone and crying non-stop. We went to the vet, he didn't have a chip and so I decided let's be a family! We came home and I put him to bed...He's sleeping so deep, calm and happy. His first photo happy... And I want many more to follow. Thank you for coming into my life! Animals choose us.💝

“This Momma just cried in the middle of Target. We were at Target waiting on Grammi and we found some dinosaurs. Owen grabbed all 3 and we were trying to pick out which one he wanted when Owen abruptly yelled ‘HI’ at this older man walking past us.

He turned around and said ‘hey sweet boy’ he proceeded to play dinosaurs with Owen. With this crazy world we live in I was a little hesitant as to how close he was with Owen. The man got his wallet out and pulled $20 out, he put it in Owens pocket on his shirt and said ‘I just lost my 2 year old grandson last week. You take this money and buy this boy all three dinosaurs’ and rubbed Owens back, wiped his tears and walked off.

After Owen yelled ‘thank you’ the gentleman turned around and yelled boomer sooner! There is still some good in this world!”

On my drive home today, I found myself in the midst of a three-car accident. While we were waiting for the paperwork to be sorted out and the tow trucks to arrive, I overheard a police officer say to a little boy, “Let’s sit over on the curb.” The boy was understandably upset about his car being all banged up, but the officer spoke to him with such kindness and gentleness. He took the little boy’s tiny hand, and together they walked to the curb. Once they were seated, they played with a toy fire truck and chatted about their favorite Disney characters. I couldn’t help but smile at that moment, wondering if anyone else noticed this beautiful display of kindness from the officer.
