I haven’t posted anything in a while because there hasn’t been anything particularly newsworthy. I’m working full-time as a Junior Groomer and building up experience. I’ve worked on 93 dogs to date. This sweet little girl was my 91st. She was the best dog I’ve ever groomed. We think she’ll likely be adopted in the next week or two. Volunteer work with shelter dogs is a good reminder of why I chose this as a career.

Great big THANK YOU to Kelly and Jennifer Keener of Kelly's Dog grooming. They came to shelter yesterday ( yes on Sunday ) to give a much needed groom to Henrietta. Her 'stache was so matted it could not be saved for the usual schnauzer face. She is still quite a beauty, and we are certain she feels lots better. Thank you again Kelly.

A few weeks ago, I asked my instructor, “what is a double coat? I don’t get it.” Now I get it. I wish I’d gotten after pictures of these two giant, fuzzy dogs, but the environment at my workplace is fast-paced. I just never think to get after pictures in the race against the clock.

We got to go visit the shelter doggy who we groomed on May 27th at her new home! She was adopted by a friend of ours. We definitely don’t have 100% success rates, but we’ve seen several of the shelter dogs we’ve worked with find homes - which is good reminder of why we’re doing what we’re doing.

I groomed my first shelter pup today to help her time in the shelter be as short as possible and to continue getting practice and experience at my craft. Thank you to my lovely wifey, Jennifer Floyd Keener for assisting and for taking some excellent pictures.

Jennifer and I got to run a petting zoo over Memorial Day weekend at Gwinnett County’s “Dream Asia” festival. It was a blast!

All services include Nails / Ear Cleaning / Bath and Dry. I've worked on sixteen breeds of dog so far. My biggest was a malamute and my smallest was a chihuahua.

Graduation is this Wednesday and I'm praying for a not very long job search. Thanks for your interest in my new career.

This week I had at least two challenging dogs. They don’t have to be big to wear you down. The most adorable dog of my week also was the hardest. I almost couldn’t walk when I was finally finished battling it out with this probably about 15 pound dog. My prayer is that I’ll learn effective ways to handle difficult dogs.

From the dog’s perspective, almost nothing about the groom is enjoyable. They know nothing about any of the pressures and deadlines the groomer is under. They only know that they dislike what you’re doing to them. Of course, it isn’t supposed to hurt, but they like to violently thrash around at the exact moment that you position scissors next to their eyes or some other sensitive area. Other than minor “quicking” of the nails a few times, I haven’t hurt a dog yet. I pray that my reflexes will stay good so that I never will.

The Malamute was kind of scary up front, to be honest, but she finally turned into a happy girl at the end. The big, fluffy German Shepherd made my day when he unexpectedly gave me doggy kisses while I was drying his face (one of most dogs’ least favorite phases of the grooming process).
