Mark your calendars because Mega Adoption Event: Summer Edition is ONE MONTH away! 🌞🐾

We’re adding some extra Mega fun to the calendar this year with a summertime edition of our beloved annual adoption event! Join us Saturday, June 27 from 10AM–4PM at the Berglund Center for a huge day of adoptable pets, community, and celebration. More than a dozen local shelters and rescues will be joining us, all coming together with one goal: helping animals find homes.

Adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment and you never have to do it alone. At AoA, our promise is to support you and help you and your new companion thrive together for years to come.

Firstly, every pet goes home with a strong foundation for good health and has been examined by our Vet team, spayed/neutered, is up to date on their vaccines and preventatives, has a microchip, and has been treated for any known medical concerns before adoption. To help keep that good bill of health going, our low-cost Community Pet Clinic is here for routine care, surgeries, and more because veterinary care should never feel out of reach.

We also partner with the dog whisperers at Dragon’s Tooth Dog Training and many of our Adoption Center dogs begin working with them during their time here. Every single AoA adopter receives one free training session to help make the transition from shelter life to home life as smooth as possible.

Lastly, if you ever need temporary support we’re here for that too. Our Guardian Angel Program offers short-term care for pets during emergencies situations. Our pet food pantry at Saleeba’s Store of Hope is also open the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month from 2–4pm to help families needing a little extra support.

Same environment.
Same expectations.
Different nervous systems.

One dog has already learned how to stay calm, filter pressure, and settle into the task.
The other is still learning how to process the world without reacting to every movement, sound, and distraction around them.

That doesn’t make one dog “good” and the other “bad.”

Dogs have different genetics, different thresholds, different personalities, and different life experiences. Training is about teaching the dog in front of you, not forcing every dog to progress at the exact same speed.

Confidence is built through clarity, repetition, structure, and successful experiences over time.

The goal isn’t perfection overnight.
The goal is progress, understanding, and a dog that feels capable in the environment.

Bitsy putting in work today outside Target!

We focused on desensitization. Like seeing new things, hearing new things, and learning how to exist in that environment while still feeling safe and clear.

The goal isn’t to flood her with stimulation. It’s to reduce anticipation. No constant greetings, no chaos. Just structured exposure, neutral observation, and rewarding calm decisions.

This is how you build a dog that can handle the real world without overreacting.

Huge shoutout to Angels of Assisi for trusting the process with Bitsy. She’s making real progress AND she’s looking for a home!

Today we got hands on with some of the Angels of Assisi dogs

Moo Moo • Bitsy • Bear • Jeter

We focused on mental enrichment, structure, and making training something the dogs actually enjoy while still learning. Building engagement, problem solving, and confidence goes a long way for dogs in a shelter environment.

Huge shoutout to Angels of Assisi for letting us use their rooftop dog yard. That space is unreal and gives these dogs a real chance to decompress and learn in a better environment.

All of these dogs are looking for homes. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, go meet them!
