Founded in 1996, Watermelon Mountain Ranch is New Mexico’s largest no-kill animal shelter.

For nearly three decades, we’ve given more than 200,000 animals a second chance at life—and a place to call home. All who enter will find love...

Watermelon Mountain Ranch was founded in 1996 by Lee and Sophia DiClemente whose love for animals continues to flow through the day-to-day operations at the Ranch. What began as a grassroots effort with a small dedicated group of volunteers has grown into New Mexico's Largest No Kill Animal Shelter, encompassing a 10 acre main campus facility, two resale stores, offsite adoption centers and various humane programs serving the community. These programs include our Canine/Feline Foster Care, Humane Education, Volunteers, on- site Vet Clinic, Lee's Retirement Village (for senior dogs), Don's Angel Fund (for injured animals), and our most successful program, Molly's Mercy Missions (saving animals facing euthanasia in shelters across the Southwest and Juarez Mexico). Since the inception of Watermelon Mountain Ranch, we have helped to save the lives of over 200,000 animals, placing them in loving homes and are New Mexico's largest no-kill animal shelter. Correction: the pic says A year old, but Cho is a “4 year old”! Apologies for the error!

💜Give a ghastly hello to our sweet girl Cho...or should we call her Cho-leficent?! Her name means "beautiful" and this 60lb, 4 year old pup fits that perfectly with her stunning eyes and freckles! She can be shy when meeting a new person, but she warms up fast, and transforms into the biggest love bug! A big bonus is she is kennel, dog door and potty-trained, since she was trained in her former home. Because of her cattle dog mix, she has herding tendencies and is protective of her people. Cho would do best as the only pet in her forever home. She's looking for a home where she gets lots of fun and exercise...and of course a spot on the couch to snuggle right next to you once she's pooped! She is not-CHO average girl, so you don't want to miss out on such a wonderful dog like Cho!💜

Come meet Cho (without her Maleficent robe) at our Main Ranch Location!
