A $100 stipend will be offered to the New Hope partner that pulls Jupiter.

Jupiter was sadly surrendered by his owner. He once had a home and family but now he finds himself all alone. He is timid but that is with all good reason. In the right home Jupiter will become the sweet cat we know he is. Please check here for updated adoption hours.
What my friends at ACC say about me:
I have lived with over 10 cats.
I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together!
I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.
I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.
I'm described as friendly, active, playful, and quiet.
A volunteer writes:
Jupiter was described as friendly, active, playful, and quiet. He enjoys playing hide and seek, pouncing on and chasing toys, and also playing with water. He liked interactive playtime once and also enjoyed using a scratching post.
He is fully litterbox trained.
In the shelter, Jupiter tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed here and may be intimidated by small children. He is independent and may need time to warm up to his new, forever home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

Hello, my name is Jupiter. My animal id is #177857. I am a desexed male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 1 months old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 8/21/2023, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.

Jupiter is on the emergency placement list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 8/26/23
Jupiter was huddled in his litter box. I offered him treats and toys, but received no reaction from him. A couple of potential adopters were interested in getting to know him, but I could not coax him to come out of the litter box and display himself to them. I ended the interaction and went back later. I petted him with a scratcher, but he began to grumble, so I stopped right away. He has only been in the shelter for a few days, so he may just need more time to acclimate.

8/29/23
Lying on top of kuranda bed, body and face tense, pupils dilated and tail wrapped around body. He watches each treat offered, ears shifting forward and face softening -- he is curious about the treats. He does not eat them as I'm watching but when I check on him shortly afterwards all the treats have been eaten. I speak to him softly & slow-blink before ending the session - will continue to build positive associations!

9/3/23
Jupiter was curled up in his bed. I spoke to him and he hissed at me as I tried to pet him. I ended the interaction, leaving some treats for him to discover later. He stayed behind the covered half of his kennel the whole time I was in the room.

9/7/23
Lying in cat bed upon approach, body and face tense, ears tilted and pupils dilated. He makes and maintains hard eye contact when spoken to, then he hisses when offered treats. Although he sniffs them (and the catnip toy offered) he remains too focused on me to engage with them any further. I do not push petting at this time.

9/14/23
Lying in hidey box upon approach, body and face tense, ears forward and pupils dilated. He does not react to treats or enrichment at this time. He hisses and maintains eye contact with hard expression throughout our session. Not interested in further interaction at this time.

9/17/23
Jupiter is improving. He was lying in a cardboard box, nearly covered by a big, crocheted blanket. I spoke to him and put treats in the box. He did not respond or move out of the box, so I ended the interaction. The last time I saw Jupiter, two weeks ago, he hissed at me, so he really is more relaxed than he was.

9/20/23
In his box with only his head visible, ears forward and face tense, eyes wide and dilated. He remains tense and frozen when I open the cage door and offer him chicken in a tray near his box.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent,Skittish

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Please see behavior flyer for more information.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Jupiter was lying on top of his kuranda bed as the assessor approached, body and face tense and pupils dilated. Jupiter made eye contact with wide eyes when spoken to and he remained frozen in place as the kennel door opened. Jupiter tolerated petting along his head and body while turning his head to watch the assessor's hand with wide eyes and pulling his tail tight around his body. Pick up was not attempted at this time to reduce stress.

Jupiter tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

Temple, TX - 12YO neutered male pit mix, fully vetted, microchipped

Thunder was previously owned by a couple that needed to move. They were going to euthanize him and his sister due to no fault of their own. A rescue was able to save them both, his sister went to a rescue in Temple.

However, Thunder is not good with other dogs other than his sister, so he is still looking for his forever home. His foster has been amazing and has kept him for 6 months, but he has bit her dog and she feels her animals are no longer safe with him around. He’s a really good dog other than the dog situation.

Thunder is available for adoption through Journey Home Rescue.

Please contact Jamee at 254-247-8512. Adoption fee is $50.

KNOWN HISTORY: Pepper was brought in by the owners neighbor and was surrendered on her behalf. Pepper has a bite history, the last bite occurred 3 weeks ago that drew blood and the owner went to urgent care for antibiotics. The neighbor called the owner and she stated that Pepper is declawed on his front paws and within the last 6 mos has become increasingly aggressive and will bite the owner and the other cat in the home without any warning.

Upon intake, Pepper was growling in the carrier and was laying tightly curled up in the corner of carrier with his face turned into the corner. When staff called his name he turned and hissed, he had dilatated eyes and was drooling. He was not handled.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: New home adjustment period

Declawed cat
Potential challenges comments: Due to Pepper starting out shy and fearful in the shelter, he may require a slow approach as he adjusts to his new home before showing his social and sweet personality.

Pepper's front paws are declawed.
A cat's claws are their first line of defense, so they’ll feel vulnerable without them. Cats are also more likely to bite after being declawed since they don’t have the opportunity to scratch as a warning anymore.

Pepper enjoys tuna and dry treats; he can be treat motivated to walk out of the kennel in order to reach around his body easier, pick him up, and transfer him into a carrier.

See behavior flyers for information.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Level 2
RECOMMENDATIONS: Adult only home
Single-pet home
Recommendations comments: Reported to bite the owner and the other cat in the home without any warning.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Pepper used to be a shy, timid, and fearful cat but has now been social, sweet, and affectionate since his previous evaluation one month ago. He was sitting up at the front of the kennel focused on the assessor with a neutral body and wide eyes (mostly likely due to age/medical instead of fear). When spoken to and opening the door, he eagerly sniffs and accepts treats offered and head bunts for petting. Pepper hovers over the front entrance, leans in hard for cheek rubs, and raises his hips and tail in the air when stroking his body. The assessor uses more treats to coax him out of the kennel and explore the environment. During pick up, he remains calm and relaxed, curiously scans the surrounding, and allows petting all over when held for 5 seconds before tensing up and wiggling out of the assessor's arms. After placing Pepper back down, he continues to appreciate more treats, petting, and attention.

Pepper is a sweet and shy boy that requires a quiet, adult-only and single-pet home that understands he needs to be met where he is. When given the appropriate environment, he can be very sweet and loving and is curious and enjoys exploring. Pepper appreciates attention and petting but appeared to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.

*SHELTER PLEA* NEW PHOTO - Brooklyn's Second Longest Stay Kitty 〰MRS. WIGGLES〰 is a Wonderful Girl Who Appreciates Quality Play Time Even at Nine Years Young!

MRS. WIGGLES needs some extra patience, love, and care! She's a rescue only kitty and needs your help finding the right home!

Poor Miss Wiggles was brought in by police after scratch incident. She needs a home with an experienced foster or adopter.

A $75 stipend will be offered to the New Hope partner that pulls Mrs. Wiggles.

Please note that in order to qualify for the stipend, the animal cannot go to a boarding facility. A volunteer writes: Mrs. Wiggles is a social and outgoing lady keen on making the most of her stay at the Care Center. Her gorgeous tabby coat, with the most seasonally appropriate red and orange autumnal highlights, is really just the beginning of the amazing Mrs. Wiggles! She was sleeping on her bed when I visited, but popped right on over to the front when she saw I was there. Seemingly ready to walk right out on to my lap for some cuddles, Mrs. Wiggles is decidedly ready for her next adventure! Curious and engaged, Mrs. Wiggles keeps an eye on everyone in Adoptions. She seems to be always taking note of the people coming and going, but what I really love is how affectionate she is. Focused with her bright eyes on the door, Mrs. Wiggles gave me a quick nuzzle every few minutes to let me know she was open to taking a break for cuddles.

BEHAVIOR:

ENRICHMENT NOTES:

8/22/23
Standing in front of kennel, body and face relaxed, ears slightly tilted and eyes alert. Her tail is curled around her feet. She makes eye contact and stress meows when spoken to. She begins to flatten her ears and raise her paw as I reach towards her to offer a treat. I don't place it down until she lowers her paw (bad girl paw). I then spend the remainder of the session clicking and rewarding each time she takes a treat without hissing or raising her paw in warning again, or each time she displays any soft or social body language. Food motivated & showing conflicted behaviors. Has potential!

8/30/23
Warming up with gaba but continuing to show some conflicted behaviors. She comes out of her den with a neutral face and body and tail raised. She comes to the front and rubs her face along the cage door and purrs, allowing some pets along her head through the bars. When I open the cage door, she allows some pets along her head and back before she turns quickly to look and raises her paw once but does not escalate as I pull my hand away slowly.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:

Potential challenges comments:

Please see behavior flyer for more information.

The behavior team has requested gaba for Mrs. Wiggles and she has been receiving gaba daily for a few weeks now. The behavior team believes that the gaba is likely a major component that has contributed to Mrs. Wiggles' overall improvement in behavior. The behavior team cannot be certain if Mrs. Wiggles improved behavior will remain consistent once gaba has been discontinued.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:

Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:

Mrs. Wiggles was hiding in her cat den as the assessor approached, body and face initially blocked from view. Mrs. Wiggles poked her head out of her den when spoken to, pupils dilated and face tense. Mrs. Wiggles hisses as the kennel door opens and she swats the assessor's hand as it reaches towards her.

Although Mrs. Wiggles was timid initially, Mrs. Wiggles has now warmed up to the shelter environment. Mrs Wiggles was standing in front of her kennel as the assessor approached, body and face relaxed and ears forward. Mrs Wiggles made eye contact with a soft expression when spoken to and she remained calm in front of her kennel as the cage door opened. Mrs. Wiggles allowed petting along her head and body while leaning in, arching her back and raising her tail. Her tail sways and is pilo-erect along the base but she does not escalate further. Pick up was not attempted due to her size, weight and round stature.

Although Mrs. Wiggles is showing level 2 potential in shelter, due to her owner surrender notes which mention Mrs. Wiggles would regularly swat at strangers until she's adjusted, the behavior team must recommend that Mrs. Wiggles goes to an adult only home with experienced cat owners.
