Are You Bathing Your Dog Too Often or Not Enough? Here's the Truth. . .

How often should you actually be bathing your dog? Most owners are either over-bathing and stripping their dog's natural oils, or under-bathing and letting buildup damage the skin β€” and both show up as coat and skin problems that get blamed on everything else.

Lonnie, our amazing groomer here at Idaho Elite K-9, breaks it all down for you here.

We get this question constantly: "My dog is doing great β€” can I stop using the prong collar and e-collar now?"

Our honest answer might surprise you.

In most cases, we recommend keeping the tools on β€” even when behavior is solid. Not because the training didn't work, but because the tools are what helped build and maintain the standard. Removing them prematurely is one of the most common reasons dogs regress.

Think of it this way: a well-maintained car still has brakes. You don't remove them because the car is running well.

That said β€” if you want to reduce how often you're actively using the tools, there IS a smart way to do it:

βœ”οΈ Start in low-distraction environments
βœ”οΈ Test the behavior WITHOUT reaching for the tool first
βœ”οΈ Only progress when the response is consistent and reliable
βœ”οΈ Keep the tool available β€” don't remove it from the equation entirely until the dog has earned it across every environment

The goal isn't to need the tools forever. The goal is to never let your dog's reliability slip because you removed the structure too soon.

Watch the full video above for the complete breakdown. Share this if you know a dog owner who needs to hear it. πŸ‘†

🚨 Odor boxes are a toolβ€”not the end goal. 🚨

Odor boxes can be a great way to introduce and develop detection concepts, build confidence, and help dogs learn the game. πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί

But at some point, every detection team has to move beyond the boxes.

In this reel, we're talking about the role odor boxes play in detection training, when they can be valuable, and why progressing into more realistic search environments is critical for developing reliable, well-rounded detection dogs.

Because real-world hides don't live in boxes...

And the goal isn't to create a dog that's good at finding odor boxesβ€”it's to create a dog that's confident locating source odor wherever it may be found.

🚨 The biggest mistake people make with aggressive dogs? Waiting too long. 🚨

Aggressive behavior rarely gets better by accident. The sooner you understand what's driving the behavior, the sooner you can start building a plan to address it. πŸ•

In this reel, we're discussing some important steps to help dogs exhibiting aggressive behaviors and why early intervention can make a significant difference.

Because behavior problems don't usually disappear with time...
they typically become habits.

🚨 Your puppy isn’t β€œjust being a puppy” anymore. 🚨

Growling, biting, guarding, lunging, or intense reactions in puppies are behaviors that should be addressed early β€” not ignored in hopes they’ll simply β€œgrow out of it.” 🐢

In this reel, we’re sharing tips for helping owners navigate aggressive puppy behaviors, build better communication, and create clearer structure from the beginning.

Because early intervention matters β€” and the sooner you address the behavior correctly, the better chance you have of creating long-term success.
