What a coincidence that today just happens to be National Pet Day - and here at Pet Passages of Philly and Delco, we were able to honor that in one of the most amazing ways possible.

Many of you have heard the story of Ny'Leek Ellison, the 8 year old child who became paralyzed after a hit and run in Chester just over a year ago. Ny'Leek had a best friend named Adonis - his loyal dog who he shared everything with. They were inseparable - until they were forced to be.

In the span of that year, Adonis was no longer able to be attached at the hip to his best friend, and his health began to rapidly decline. When we received the call that Adonis passed peacefully at home, we immediately took care of his cremation services and returned him back home to his beloved family.

4 days later, Ny'Leek decided he wanted to join Adonis. While it was very unexpected, a part of us knows how strong the unconditional love between a boy and his dog can be. On today, April 11th, 2026 - National Pet Day - Ny'Leek held a small black velvet bag while hundreds paid their final respects to not just a boy, but a boy and his dog ❤️

We were honored to be involved in this journey.

While we have decided to suspend operations for the remainder of Sunday evening and into the early morning hours, we do anticipate having fairly regular office hours for Monday including both pickups and drop offs. Due to inclement weather, we will be open for after hours and emergency intakes by appointment only up through about 1am Sunday morning. We hope to open for regular business hours on Monday, but that will be largely determined by the road/icing conditions. However, if your pet does happen to pass during our forecasted snow storm, please do not hesitate to call us! We will do everything we can to accommodate you and your pet until roads are safely passable.

We hope everybody had a very Merry Christmas!

For Friday, December 26th, 2025 - if you are planning on coming in to bring your beloved family member back home, please be advised that we *may* close early due to inclement weather. We will 100% play it by ear.

In regards to any after-hours deceased pet pickups, services may not be available from Friday evening until Saturday afternoon, depending on location. We will take care of you as soon as it is safe to!

After a short test run, we have some exciting news!

When your pet passes away, especially at home and unexpectedly, it never seems to happen during regular business hours. But here at Pet Passages, you won't have to worry about hearing a pre-recorded message telling you we'll get back to you during those regular business hours - you'll get a live person no matter what time is your time of need.

And this isn't just some streamlined answering service either, this is someone who works at our location, knows the ins and outs of what we do and what we are about, and can even tell you if we have that urn in stock that you saw on the website.

Please be advised, however, our busiest after-hours times are weekday mornings between 6am-9am. If we don't answer, it's because we're on the line with another pet parent... we WILL call you back within 15 minutes, or send you a text acknowledging that we missed your call.

We look forward to continuing to serve the Philadelphia area 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

***WE ARE STAYING OPEN FOR REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS ON JULY 4TH!!***

We considered opening for appointment only on an after hours schedule, but we also know how much an emergency vet can cost on the holiday, and we would like to help ease that burden just a bit. As a reminder, you are more than welcome to bring your pet directly to us from your vet when that time comes.

Additionally, we have decided to stay open to give our working pet parents an opportunity to bring their loved one home on a day where many would have the day off. If your pet is still with us, or if you need to pick up belongings, prints, or simply just want to check us out, we encourage you to stop in on Friday between 10 and 5, no appointment necessary, and no extra charge!
