We had our own little in-hand obstacle challenge today with the barn members here at Rosewood! From beginners to advanced handlers, we had levels for each obstacle so everyone could be involved.

It is so important here to build a fun and friendly atmosphere. We want it to feel like one big barn family! This was a great way for members to meet and have fun with horses while doing so!

I'd say some fun was definitely had despite the heat today!!

Can you even tell which horse this is?! 😂 Poor Chewy got attacked by some kind of biting bugs and had a slight allergic reaction yesterday. No one else is getting bit up like him! So Chewy got to come in for the night and is now wearing full fly gear for at least the next few days. He scared his herd mate, training horse Indie, at first with the new outfit, but once Indie realized he wasn't a ghost, all was well again. 😅

What's the new project we will begin working on soon?? 🤔Prep for a new building!

You know the saying everything happens for a reason... I'd have to agree.

Last night turned into a late evening at the barn for various reasons and it wasn't until 10:30pm that we finally headed in. Pregnant mare Chloe was happily eating hay at that point and was showing zero signs of getting ready to foal. Around 11:30pm, as I'm about to finally go to bed, I look out the window at the horses I can see and Denver is acting strange. I watch for a few minutes and he's making faces, standing weird, and just generally not acting like himself at all. I decide to head back out and check on him, but when I got there, he was acting perfectly fine. Strange... I decided to head into the barn for a halter and lead rope to walk him and check him over better, and I walked into Chloe just having finished giving birth!

Now Denver is a herd boss here and he takes his job very seriously. He continued to be fine the rest of the night and was happily laying down sleeping by the time I went back in. Was he trying to get my attention and alert me to what was going on in the barn? Maybe, maybe not. But I'm thinking yes.

Mama Chloe and little foal are doing amazing! He was born a little early, but you wouldn't know it. He's happy and healthy and already giving his mom sass. ❤️

We have a new horse here at Rosewood, in for some training. Meet Indie, a 4 year old Haflinger! Indie is here to learn some ground manners and continue his riding skills.

I don't always put training horses in with the herds here, but in Indie's case, a few balanced and well rounded friends are going to do him good. Chewy is the first one to meet him and they became fast friends!

One of our big projects this spring is more fencing! It is going up so beautifully and the horses are LOVING the grass.

Many hands make quick work! We had a ton of buckthorn that got cut down as it was hurting the beautiful oak trees and we couldn't just leave it all sit there. So we wood chipped it. Look at the difference!!

HUGE shoutout to everyone that helped today. There is no way we could have gotten it all done in one day without you all! A barn can be so much more than just a place to ride, it can be a place to build community, work ethic, confidence, and friendships. Here at Rosewood, we strive to be a happy place for everyone and I think that shows in how we came together today to get such a big job done quick. Thank you all again!
