We wish these two Troopers, their fellow Troopers, the EMT that was injured, and their families a swift recovery both physically and mentally.
Our hearts go out to the friends and family of Lori Wasko that was tragically murdered in her front yard by this psychopath.
There were some heros out there this morning and we are thankful that they were able to help each other to safety and eliminate the threat. May they find peace in knowing that they saved lives and eliminated a menace to society.
Two State Troopers Ambushed and Shot in Susquehanna County
Thompson Township, PA – August 7, 2025
This morning just after 11 a.m., Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins were ambushed and seriously wounded while responding to a welfare check in rural Susquehanna County, near Thompson Township, roughly five miles north of Thompson and about 40 miles north of Scranton .
The call began as a domestic dispute at a local home. Upon arrival, the troopers were met with gunfire from a male suspect armed with a rifle. One trooper suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and back and required surgery, while the other was shot in the arm .
Despite being injured, Trooper Perechinsky applied a tourniquet to his partner. A third trooper arrived and helped evacuate the wounded officers. Both were airlifted to hospitals and are currently in stable condition .
The suspect fled into a nearby barn and refused to comply with commands. Tactical teams eventually shot and killed him, ending the threat. Authorities confirm there is no ongoing danger to the public .
Governor Josh Shapiro called the troopers “heroes,” praising Perechinsky’s decisive actions that helped save lives. He also said he plans to visit the area once the situation is fully contained . State Police Col. Christopher Paris echoed the seriousness of the ambush and noted that despite bullet-riddled patrol vehicles, the troopers survived through teamwork and quick thinking .
