Had a fun outing at Murphy today! Gatsby did great on his first trail ride ever and we got to see Czarlie and Cindy do their trademark picnic table jumping. From left to right: Cindy on Czarlie, Katie Rutledge on Gatsby, Roberta on Prado, Ely on Mocha, Dana on Shooter, Schneckchen on Gustav, Jodie on Lily and me on Scarlett! Scarlett and Prado loves their mini family reunion. Delaney Cox next time we’ll have to break Danni out of retirement!

This week’s meet Team Wickander student is Katie Rutledge and her horse Wrising Sun (Gatsby). Here’s Katie’s bio: I have been horse crazy for as long as I can remember! I took my first riding lesson at age 10 and have owned a horse since age fifteen. I grew up riding at Fortuna Farm with Max vonBlucher and started riding with Jaime about 5 years ago. While I dabble in jumping, dressage has always been my passion. I currently own two horses. Liberté (Libby) is a Hanoverian cross mare who is now enjoying retirement. Wrising Son (Gatsby) is my new dressage partner. He’s a coming 3 year old who registered with the American Warmblood Society and was bred by Wally Woo Farm in Kansas. I’m so excited to partner with Jaime to bring Gatsby along through the levels of dressage. I’ve waited my whole life for this horse, and I can’t wait to see where we go!

When I’m not riding, I’m a soccer mom of two boys, a distance runner, and a middle school teacher. We live in Minnetonka and I am finishing my 17th year in the Westonka School District.

Delaney and Tommy did their first four tempos last week! So proud of you! Meet Delaney: Hello everyone! My name is Delaney and I have been training with Jaime for the past 14 years (for some reason she took on a crazy 8 year old)! I am second year veterinary student at the University of MN and I can’t wait to be out practicing real medicine! I currently own 2 horses, Dannika and Hilfiger LJS. Dannika is a coming 12 year old Oldenburg mare that Jaime bred out on her farm. She gave me a wonderful education and competition life, but 4 years ago due to an unknown injury was retired from competition. She lives on a beautiful pasture where she can truly rule the herd! Hilfiger LJS, or Tommy, is a coming 8 year old KWPN and my current competition partner! Last year, we competed at 3rd level and made it all the way to regionals! This winter we have been solidifying our 3rd level movements and working on 4th level! I’m so excited for this show season and can’t wait to show off all of Jaime’s hard work! Jaime has not only taught me riding lessons but life lessons along the way! Thanks for letting me be a part of Team Wickander! ❤️

Meet Team Wickander!

I am excited to introduce Janelle and her mom, Kristine Johnson. Janelle is a 23 year old student at the U of M (my alma mater.) Janelle takes a weekly lesson on her horse Roo, an 8 year old KWPN/Trakehner by Rhythm and Blues (Olympic Ferro). Roo was imported from Canada 5 years ago and has been in full time training with me at Dark Horse Farm for a year and a half. When he came, Roo didn’t know how to half halt in the canter. Now, Janelle is riding a solid Third level horse, who over collects in the training canter pirouettes! Roo is also training piaffe, passage, and in his last lesson with Janelle, discovered using one tempis for an evasion. It’s okay Roo, we’ll allow you to think you are getting out of work by doing that for now.

Janelle is an eventer and Canterbury Pony Club alumni. Currently focusing on dressage, her plan for Roo is to just enjoy him, and allow him to become the best horse he can be. Janelle is really excited about learning from Roo as he advances his dressage career.

USEF Announces New Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) Status for Pergolide Administration Effective December 1, 2018

Wow, one in five horses over age 15 has PPID (Cushings). Just my luck, both my horses over 15, Fury and Zar, have it.

Effective December 1, 2018, horses that are granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for pergolide can remain on pergolide with no withdrawal of drug prior to competition and no need to file a Medication Report Form (MRF) each time they compete.

Mandatory Safe Sport Training for USEF Members 18-years-old and Older

The USEF Safesport training is required for members 18 and older. The training takes 90 minutes, but you can break it up into pieces and it saves the part you’ve already done. I am half done, and have been working on it in my spare time (haha, like is that even a thing?) for the last few weeks.
