The absolute most important tool for grooming at home?

Honestly… attitude and patience. 🐾
And yes this is a hill I will die on.

Because your dog remembers how grooming feels way more then they will ever care how they look.

Second place goes to a nail file.

It’s one of the safest, easiest ways to keep them short or get the pups who umm less then love their feet being touched accustomed to at least dealing with a nail trim. A tiny trim here and there absolutely builds up their tolerance. Sometimes even one toe is reason enough to celebrate 🎉

As a pro groomer I was shocked that 40% of dog owners groom at home. The more you dive into it though the easier it is to see why. if you’ve ever thought home grooming was too hard I promise, it’s more doable than you think. Follow for more tips and encouragement 💕

Even more importantly… focus on a really good towel dry before you even turn on the dryer. Get out as much water as possible first. The more water you remove with the towel, the faster and easier the drying process becomes.

Bonus, It’s often your pup’s favorite part of the whole grooming process. 🐾

Still smell like wet dog after the bath?
It’s probably not your shampoo. It’s your technique. 🐾

Most people wet their dog first, but there’s a reason pros don’t. Dry fur absorbs. Wet fur repels. When you apply diluted shampoo to a dry coat, it penetrates open follicles and binds directly to dirt and oil. Then water flushes it all out for a genuinely deeper clean.
I totally geek out on the science of shampoos and skin so this is one of my fave tricks.

Save this one. Your dog’s skin will thank you.

Most dog owners mean well when they do this… but timing matters.

If we say “good boy” while a dog is fighting the brush, squirming, or trying to escape, we may accidentally reinforce the behavior we want to stop.

Instead, wait for the calm.
Even one second of relaxed behavior.

THAT’S when the praise happens. 🐾

Positive reinforcement works best when we reward the behavior we actually want repeated.
