Big day for Lisa!! It’s frozen boyfriend day 🥳🥶

This year’s first choice for her is a bull named Chocochip.

He boasts long teats with good spacing. He’s A2/A2 & polled (born w/o horns). His production is on the lower side but with Lisa hitting her peak at 6.5 gallons a day as a first calf heifer under 24 months old, this shouldn’t be a big deal.

We used sexed semen so there is over a 95% chance this baby will be a heifer. If the breedings today are successful we should have a calf June 1st!

So now what? If everything goes according to plan: 🤔👇

In 3 weeks: we watch for signs of Lisa coming back into heat (we don’t want to see any signs of heat 3 weeks & on post breeding)

In 4 weeks: we draw blood for an at-home instant-read pregnancy test.

In 6-8 weeks: we repeat the process with Bonnie girl.

Did you know that both Lisa & Bonnie are A2/A2?

What is A2 milk?
Beta-casein, which makes up 30% of milk protein, exists in two forms: A1 and A2. A2 milk only contains the A2 variant of beta-casein protein. Cows with the A2A2 gene produce only A2 milk. Jersey, Guernsey, Normande and Brown Swiss breeds have a higher percentage of A2 genes than Holstein.

**There have been claims that A2 milk is easier for humans to digest, improves health and lowers the risk for some diseases. Many of these claims have not been proven by science. The most promising claim is for easier human digestibility.

No one is as thrilled to have power restored as a lady that milks 7.5 gallons a day (except maybe her cows? 😂).

Last night I hand-milked, which we got through ok, but both cows were like “wait… what’s the deal?”
