ALL SERVICE DOGS ARE LEGITIMATE regardless of the tasks it performs. And I'm tired of seeing people sh*tlist others because of the number of tasks or whatever yall have an issue with. A service dog is not more or less for what it does for its handler. Whether it's medical alert or just DPT. why do we feel like it's a passing contest for who's more disabled? Why is it anybodys business?
The only instance where another person's service dog becomes your business is if it's attacking yours. Otherwise mind your own.

We as a community have a responsibility to protect who we work with. Staying silent on the blatant abuse is the same as allowing it to happen. These dogs deserve better and it's on all of us to keep them safe. To keep each other in check. I personally am always open to opinions and point of views. If I'm doing something wrong, tell me. And I'd do the same to anyone else. We probably all know who this post is about so I ask you please don't stay silent. Dogs can't speak for themselves.

I hear it alot from my other trainers. "He knows better"
We can't expect him to do things we want him to do, simply because we want it. There has to be something in it for them.
I was once told "your dog shouldn't work for treats. You dog should work to please you."
Do you work without getting paid? Would you put in 40 hours, simply because it makes your boss happy?
And this is in no way intended to bash others training methods. It's not aimed at anybody. But a dogs way of living deserves respect

MARKER WORDS
We hear people use the term 'marker' quite often, but what does it mean? We use markers to verbally communicate to the dog what it is doing correctly or incorrectly. The most common markers you may see used are No, Good, and Yes.
No, is obviously the "incorrect' marker. We tell our dog no when it's doing something we don't want it to do.
'Good' is a duration marker. Can be delivered with a reward. To communicate to the dog that is doing the right thing and to keep doing it. Example: telling your dog 'stay' and marking 'good', indicating you want the dog to continue staying and not to get up.
'Yes' is the completion marker. To be delivered with a reward. To communicate that the dog has done what you asked it to do and it can be released. Example: "sit.. YES" followed by reward.
The use of markers is incredibly important for clear, direct instructions from the handler to the dog.

The right way:
People on all social media platforms do this, but especially on tiktok (in my experience) and what they are saying is: you're doing it wrong.
What is the wrong way?
I suppose we can all agree that truly abusive training methods are wrong. But besides that, how does one train a dog wrong? Especially when you are looking through a screen, not knowing my life, daily routine, my expectations, my needs for my dog, my dogs needs for me, etc.
Your experience is entirely different than mine. We all just do what works for us. It doesn't make it wrong.

I took a little break for a while because life got away from me. I wanted to talk about it though.
I felt guilty for some reason. Like I'm falling behind if I'm not constantly on top of things. Like I'm failing somehow.
But mental health is infinitely more important than some social media platforms. It's okay to be burnt out. It's okay to be tired and it's okay to take a break.
I'm still learning to put myself first. And I wanted to share this in Hope's it reaches whoever it needs to.

NOT A VET

while most trainers do know quite a bit of medical information, we are not vets. Dont expect us to know everything a vet would know.

NOT AN INVITATION

Inspired by

I often find myself telling people my dog isn't friendly so they can leave us alone. I'm fine with people petting my dog but if I'm working him, or training in public I dont need every human being to be loving up my dog. There is a time and a place.
