This recent story will give you ALL the feels! 😭

In 2018, Chuck Hawley rescued a tiny kitten who had been glued to the road in the Salem area. He named that kitten Sticky the Kitty and wrote a series of children's books about compassion and kindness. Chuck was also honored with an OHS Diamond Collar Award in 2019 for rescuing Sticky. 👏

Sadly, Sticky recently passed away after a short but severe illness. Chuck stopped in to OHS' Portland campus to walk around while he was processing his grief.

As he was about to leave, a paw reached out of one of the kennels and tapped him on the shoulder. 🐱 The rest was history. Melvin the kitten, now named Allen, is home with Chuck and his family. ❤️

Skyler had a urinary blockage that could be fatal if left untreated. After two procedures, the blockages continued. A complicated, and more expensive, surgery was needed. ❤️

His person, Rhonda, turned to Oregon Humane Society's Community Veterinary Hospital for help. She’d been quoted more than $10,000 for the surgery at other clinics. With the help of subsidized care thanks to donors like you, her new estimate at the CVH was a fraction of what she’d been quoted elsewhere.

“Skyler is incredibly special to me—he is my everything,” says Rhonda. With Skyler's lifesaving surgery now behind them, Rhonda can cherish him for years to come.

This you can help pets like Skyler live long and healthy lives. Help animals today 👏 - bit.ly/OHSWOW

Access to veterinary care is a significant part of our mission to create A More Humane Society. OHS is partnering with Portland Animal Welfare Team - PAW Team to provide spay and neuter services. 👏

A discounted rate of $30 for cat spay and neuter and $100 for dogs is available at OHS and PAW Team covers 100 percent of the cost for their clients.

People that qualify for PAW Team services have different stories. Some are unhoused, some live in shelter, while others face financial hardship that restricts their access to medical care for their companions.

The work of providing aid to animals in our community and this incredible partnership cannot be done without your support! You can help animals by giving to Willamette Week Give!Guide. Learn more - oregonhumane.org/ohs-paw-team/

We were so honored to help Riley ask Katie to him. 💍🥹👏

The mission: adopt a kitten. Little did Katie know, it also included a very special question. When our staff got the call to help, they came up with a plan and had the “Marry Me” tag made for the kitten they would adopt. 😻

The surprise wasn’t over after the proposal! Their families were waiting in the OHS lobby for them with flowers, balloons, and hugs.

Congrats to the happy couple AND to Kynaraeth the kitten. What a wonderful home you have. ❤️

Romy, now Bailey, was transferred to OHS through Fences For Fido. She lived on a porch with her parents and siblings and no exposure to the outside world.

She was fearful and shut down when our Behavior Modification team first started working with her. Overtime, Bailey became playful and loved crawling into laps.

Now, she is living a wonderful life with her adopters who have shown her patience and love: "We want to thank the trainers for all their hard work in getting Bailey ready to come home with us. We are so happy Bailey is a part of our family. She is a total lap dog, will use her paw to nudge you for attention in a sweet and gentle way."

In honor of , we're throwing it back to our vaccine clinic at Blanchet House and Farm earlier this year! 👏

We are so grateful to be able to partner with a wonderful organization to help provide medical services, collars, leashes, harnesses, and pet food for pets in need.

This clinic was able to serve 78 dogs and 48 cats. Thank you to our team at the Community Veterinary Hospital who stepped in to help people and pets in our community. ❤️
