Winston is working very hard on his recovery today. 😴

While we provide the medical care, Winston is in charge of the most important part of the healing process: catching some serious Z’s! Even in the ER, this guy knows that a good nap is the best medicine. We’re happy to report that Winston is resting comfortably and keeping the clinic staff entertained with his symphony of snores. We love you, Winston! 🐾

Secure Their Safe Return – Microchips & Identification

June is National Pet Preparedness Month, and for our second week, we’re focusing on a critical step in disaster planning: making sure your pet can always find their way back home.

In the chaos of an emergency, pets can easily become separated from their families. While we all hope for the best, preparation is the key to a safe reunion.

Why ID Matters Now:
*A Chip is Only as Good as Your Registry: A microchip is a permanent, reliable form of ID, but it is only effective if your contact information is up to date. If you’ve moved or changed your phone number recently, please take a moment this week to log into your pet’s registry and update your details.

*Double Up with Tags: Always ensure your pet wears a collar with an ID tag containing your current phone number. It’s the fastest way for a neighbor or local shelter to contact you if your pet is found.

*Quick Scan: Microchipping is a quick, painless, and simple procedure we offer here at Veterinary Medical & Emergency Center. If your pet isn't microchipped yet, or if you aren't sure if their chip is functioning properly, give us a call!

We are here to help you get your pet ready for anything. If you have questions about your pet's current identification or need to schedule an appointment to get them chipped, call us at 772.337.8570.

🔍 Myth-Buster Monday: Can a microchip track your pet?

It’s June, National Microchipping Month, and we’re back with another Myth-Buster!

One of the most common questions we hear is: "Does my pet's microchip have GPS so I can see where they are on my phone?"

While it’s a popular misconception, the answer is no. It’s time to bust this myth! ❌

A microchip is a passive RFID device—it doesn’t have a battery or a power source, which means it cannot transmit a signal or track your pet’s location in real-time. Instead, think of it as a permanent, tamper-proof ID card. When a scanner is passed over your pet at a shelter or vet clinic, it powers the chip just long enough to read a unique ID number, which links directly to your contact information.

If you are looking for real-time tracking, that would require a separate, battery-powered GPS collar device. But for permanent identification that can never fall off or be lost? The microchip is the gold standard!

🐾 STAFF PET SUNDAY: THE "GUARD GOAT" EDITION! 🐾

We promised you that our Staff Pet Sunday series would include the furry, the scaled, and the feathered—but today, we are adding a little extra hoof to the mix! 🐐✨

We are heading home with our ER Technician, Chani, to meet a very unique family member who keeps life incredibly entertaining when she isn't working hard at the clinic.

Meet Nosferatu Baphomet!

*Age & Birthday: He will be 3 years old on the 4th of July! Ironically, despite his patriotic birthday, he is actually terrified of fireworks. 🎆

*The Name: "Nosferatu Baphomet" translates to "Vampire King Devil"—and he completely lives up to his favorite household nickname, Naughty! He also answers to Nos or Feratu.

*Best Qualities: He is a certified "Guard Goat," a professional Baa-er, an expert headbutter, and a "professional cud chewer". 🛡️📣

*Funny Quirks: He has some pretty unique indoor habits. He is completely potty-pad trained to live inside the house! He also has some unusual culinary tastes... specifically, he eats drywall! 🧱😂

*Sunday Vibe & Sunday Rescue: You can usually find him laying in the sun. However, he absolutely hates the rain. If a downpour starts while he's outside, his mommy has to physically sprint out into the storm to save him! ☀️🌦️

From Cat Bed to 85lbs!Chani bottle-raised Feratu from the time he was just 2 weeks old, back when he was small enough to curl up and sleep in a cat bed. Today, he is a healthy 85lb boy! He is also legally registered with the city as an official Emotional Support Animal (ESA), which allows him to live his best indoor life with Chani.

Don't let the "Vampire King Devil" name fool you—at the end of the day, he is a total sweetheart who loves nothing more than napping and cuddling with his mommy.

Who knew our ER crew had an 85lb indoor guard goat on duty?! Do any of your pets have an unusual fear like fireworks, or a funny habit of stealing another animal's bed? Tell us your stories in the comments! 👇

Honored to have a hero in the building today! 🐾⚓️

We were so excited to welcome Ghost for a visit. Ghost is a vital part of the Navy K9 program, dedicated to providing incredible support to our veterans. It is truly humbling to see the bond between these service dogs and the heroes they assist.

Thank you, Ghost, for your service, your calm presence, and the amazing work you do. You are always welcome back!

A Very Brave Boy: Fergus Takes on the Nail Trim!

What a superstar! It takes a lot of courage to sit still for a pedicure, but Fergus absolutely nailed it (pun intended!) during his recent visit to VMC SLC. Despite the big, scary nail clippers, he kept his cool and showed everyone just how much of a gentleman he is.

We are so proud of this handsome little guy for being such a patient and well-behaved pup while the team took care of his paws. He deserves all the treats, belly rubs, and extra snuggles for being such a rockstar at the clinic today. Keep up that wonderful attitude, Fergus!
