Starting to work with the saddle! 😊
Now that I have more control, I'm more trusting to work him in the fields and out of the fence! He did very well! Only working in one area can cause a false sense of security, since as soon as you leave the area the horse could get nervous and lose confidence. Let them venture out a little! Try new things.

Working on confidence and fine tuning, any holes in training I find will be filled.

Cinnamon was struck by a car today on a county highway at 7am.. being put down.

I first got her in 2018. She was hardly broke, and I was a beginner to horses. Usually that's something I'd say is a huge no no. But she was patient and tolerant of me learning, only throwing me once in all those years. She sparked a passion and interest into training, as I developed my confidence with horsemanship.
Over the years I learned how to train and develop a horse, buying young Colts to repeat the process until I began taking clients.

I trusted her with my life. I knew she would take care of me in any situation. When I broke my arm and had problems putting on a halter, she started helping me and putting her nose in it for me. She was such a sweetheart.

She started having narvicular and pedal bone problems around 2022. Even when I wasn't able to ride her or work her as much, I still enjoyed taking care of her and developing our liberty work instead, having a stronger connection. She was smart, but sassy, so I loved her being a brat. She made it fun and kept me on my toes. Always got a laugh or smile out of me. She was always energetic, had a lot of athleticism, doing rollbacks and trying to cow cut me because she wanted to. That always wanted me to start her on a cow.

I wanted to take her across country this year, camping with the trailer, enjoying nature. I'm saddened I won't get that chance with her now.

She taught me a lot about horsemanship, she was truly my heart horse. I had planned to keep her until her old days..

I like to eventually rely on my legs and seat alone to control my horse. I think it's a fun challenge to advance this type of training! Would love to go bridless one day!

Having control of the major body parts of a horse is the foundation to everything. I always teach it on the ground and get a good concept before trying to ask undersaddle. I find that dull horses need more repetition to be responsive, and more energetic horses to be more relaxed. I always start tapping the air, just thinking about the manuever. You should never have to constantly ask a horse to get something in return. Nagging turns a horse sour real quick! Be patient but firm! :)

Do your checklists!
Just because a person says the horse is broke doesn't mean anything. There could be holes or confusion in a horse's foundation.
I run through a series of groundwork exercises and acceptance training before even considering getting on.
There's no point on jumping on and risking your life. No one is paying you a million dollars if you break your back! There's no shame in taking a day or two to refreshen a horse's mind.
