Re-posted after a lengthy but very successful rehab from a 1/4 crack in the left front hoof. Photos and details of the therapy available. Has been working in hand and back under saddle. Retired from racing after 8 starts, Southern Keys (aka “Westley”) has a great brain & a gentle soul. He is kind-hearted, eager to learn & to please. Westley is being brought along slowly, with consistent work in hand, schooling under Western & English tack at the walk, trot, & canter. While his training emphasis has been on western dressage & ranch work, with his level-headed and easy-going demeanor he would also make a lovely dressage or working equitation prospect. Westley is confident & comfortable to ride both in the arena & out on the trail, whether alone or with other horses. To make this horse yours please PM me.

An overdue update on our TBMakeover journey and Westley. We had an outstanding time at in Kentucky. We went to the Competition nursing a mild 1/4 crack. With recommendations from both our Vet and Farrier we went forward to compete in Kentucky. When we returned home is where the adventure continues. Through November the 1/4 crack worsened and in December we began a lengthy lay off and rehab.

Thanks to my entire team of experts Charlie Perez, Mike Savoldi, Robert Heffington and Linda Lauper we are on track to a healthy foot! Actually, feet all around.

We began by taking off all shoes (a scary proposition for me as we all know that the feet of a TB can be tricky to manage). The biggest factor in this rehab is a therapy that challenges us all "TIME". Yes, complete time off. I love this horse and since I am blessed with being able to provide the time this was the first step in getting him healthy.

Third: reshaping the hoof its self
You can see photos of the progression from December through March. The change has been tremendous.

I've even learned to rasp the hoof myself, which has given me greater appreciation for farriers everywhere. Kathy Stafford , Ron would be impressed with my new skills, lol.
My hope is after another 6-8 weeks we will put shoes back on and Westley will once again be in full training Western Dressage and Ranch Riding.
He is on the market for sale but, will not leave my care until this hoof is healed.

I've included in this post links to the protocols we've used to transform this foot. Hope it gives anyone dealing with a 1/4 crack some options for soundness.
