Adoption update: It’s Timmy and Bruno (now Shuffles) and all of their orange brothers enjoying some warm and sunny time on the porch this afternoon. How many brothers do you count?

Does anyone recognize this face? It’s GRAYSON looking so mature! We have a little good news / bad news about his adoption. The bad news being that his adoption did not work out. Grayson was quite fearful of the resident animals and the adopter came to the difficult decision that they were not the right home for him. That’s okay though as quickly welcomed him back and agreed to take him in. Which brings me to the good news. We get to see a lot more Grayson for the next few weeks as he gets settled in with Jada and she can make sure his medical needs are stable. Thankfully he’s a pretty chill and happy dude so the move doesn’t seem to have stressed him out too much. Grayson does have megacolon though which means a lifetime of management and a close watch. His condition is well-managed with medications and a strict diet thankfully and he seems to be doing well currently. We will of course let you know once Grayson does go back up for adoption. And in the meantime, we’ll enjoy a few more updates on this handsome little dude! ❤️

An obese wobbly cat gets a second chance at life thanks to Big House Cat Sanctuary 💛

It’s important to monitor weight for all cats but as you can see in this case, all that extra weight made it so difficult for her to do things, that this sweet wobbly cat simply stopped participating. 🥺

If you see a post like this asking you to sign a petition to help save newborn kittens, there are ways to actually help and it's not by signing a petition. Signing this petition in particular will do nothing except give this company your email address for future marketing campaigns.

So what are things you can do that would actually help?

1. Foster. One of the biggest hurdles orphaned kittens face is that there is nowhere for them to go and no-one to care for them. Rescues can't take newborn kittens if there are no caregivers available. Yes, it does take around-the-clock care for the first couple of weeks, but they do not take up much space. Or take in slightly older bottle babies, which require less frequent feedings. Or sign up to foster weaned kittens.

2. Volunteer. If you can't provide in-home care, you can still help rescue organizations by doing other tasks required to keep a rescue running. Sometimes things like transportation is especially helpful. Run supplies to a foster. Go pick up kittens and help them get to their foster home, etc. Feeling crafty? Make tiny blankets and beds! There are endless ways to help besides fostering.

3. Donate. If you can, donate. Cat rescues always need money. Adoption fees do not come even close to covering the costs for raising kittens.

4. Like, Comment, Share. You can also support local rescues by interacting with them on social media. This helps their content and fundraisers be seen by others. If you can't foster, volunteer or donate, you can still be a huge help by interacting with legit rescues and foster caregivers online.

5. Show caregivers support. Know a foster caregiver in real life? Offer to pick up supplies for them. Buy them a coffee, gas card or door dash gift card. Ask them how it's going and actually listen. Fostering has a high burnout rate as it can be emotionally challenging to care for the most fragile kittens. We often drop everything to run and get medications or take sick kittens to the vet. I can't tell you how many times I skipped dinner because there was no time when I was caring for sick kittens.

6. Spay and nueter. Adopt don't shop. There is an estimated 60-100 MILLION homeless cats in the USA. Please be a responsible pet owner and don't contribute to the crisis.

FOSTER FLASHBACK FRIDAY featuring baby Snaps! 🥰

I was reminiscing with Gina and she suggested we share these with all of you too. Snapple was just over 4 weeks old when he arrived into my care and he was so cute and round! 🥰 He also loved to bite anything that came near his mouth 😹 but it was his main outlet for kitten energy and play. 💕 Isn’t he the cutest little baby?

Update on Grayson:
He’s still a bit of a mystery and his system is definitely not working right. 😿 He has been constipated again even after being on special food, and a few days of laxatives and enemas didn’t help so he had a procedure yesterday to get out the backed up stool and it was a HUGE amount of stool for a kitten his size. The pile was about the size of a tennis ball once they were done. He’ll be getting follow up x-rays in a few days to make sure things are moving. The concern is that he’s not actually able to push stool out, that his body isn’t working right and he possibly even lacks some feeling in his colon although it is unknown if that is just due to the extreme amount of backup he had so perhaps feeling will return. It is also unknown if his urine leaking is just due to him trying so hard to p**p or if his whole system isn’t working right. His foster, Abby, is working hard to get answers and hopefully get things well managed as being severely backed up all the time does create serious concerns about his long-term health and quality of life. Poor little guy! One thing I know is that he’s in good hands and has a loving foster who is looking out for him. ❤️

Grayson’s foster, Abby, sent over some ADORABLE photos and a bit of an update. Unfortunately, Grayson is still unable to make normal p**ps and pees in the litter box and still dribbles urine. Abby is thinking he may have a congenital disorder as the cause which was also my initial concern. She is a great advocate for him so I know he’s in good hands. He’s still a happy little dude and eats great but his issues still remain a mystery. He’s been treated for constipation and gas and they’ve been trying special diets too but his issues remain. Abby is still trying to get answers for him and i’ll be sure to update you if there are any updates to share.
