Boop of the day brought to you by the sweetest, wiggly-est, most handsome-est bodybuilding πŸ‹ bully ever, "Big D"! 🐾 This cute bully-man is currently on a prescription diet to help rule out or diagnose food allergies. He also needs Apoquel and some ear flushing to help his itching and previously severe ear infections, respectively. We are eager to see his continued improvement as the food trial continues! If he has flare ups during the diet trial, while the air is filled with spring pollens 🌳, we will recheck him and plan to do allergy testing. 🩡

Happy 1st day of SPRING! 🌞🌳 Bentley is a sweet Morkie boy that typically chews his feet and scratches his ears during his flares in spring and fall! 🌾 Today, Bentley's feet are red and partially bald from chewing this past week. 🐾 We redosed his seasonal Cytopoint injection for ITCH RELIEF! We are sending home a fabulous, low potency, steroid containing lotion for the itchy areas AND recommendations to bathe, rinse and wipe his itchy spots to reduce secondary skin infections! Happy Spring Bentley, we hope you feel better soon! 🩡

** Let's NAME our feathered friends! **

Prior to the holidays, we noticed at least 3 but sometimes 5 turkey walking through our trees. Our exam room windows afford this turkey viewing! πŸͺŸ As of yesterday, when the cold temps improved, the 3 hens came back for some seed. Let's have some fun and NAME these ladies! πŸ§πŸ¦ƒ

Brand name or generic drugs should always be used for your pet's prescriptions, when possible. πŸ’Š Read attached!

In cases where the dose cannot be reached with the commercially available drug, due to the size of the pet, or a different form (ex. liquid) is needed if your pet will not take a pill, we will consider compounding the medication under the direction of approved compounding pharmacies. πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬

Compounded medications are essential, particularly when a suitable FDA-approved product is unavailable; however, their use should be approached judiciously.

Our Story

Pittsburgh Veterinary Dermatology was founded in August 2003, filling a void in veterinary dermatology services in the greater Pittsburgh area. In 2006, Dr Sandra Sargent DVM DACVD returned to the Pittsburgh area where she grew up and took over the dermatology practice. She purchased the practice in 2008 and Pittsburgh Veterinary Dermatology remains independently owned and operated. Patients are currently seen at both the PVSEC North and South facility. Dr Ashley Detwiler DVM DACVD joined the practice in July, 2018.
