Hank came in last week just not acting himself.. 😥😖

Mom warned that he had been at the vet a few days prior and they thought maybe he had a hurt front paw or possibly a bellyache.. and prescribed him some pain meds and anti-inflammatories.
While working with Hank, I quickly realized there was something going on with his back end. He wasn’t fond of me touching his back feet or his back legs and wanted to sit often. -more often than usual. He’d also kind of wince when I’d grab his belly to pull him up in a standing position but didn’t show substantial or debilitating pain.

When he was done, I carefully put him on the floor and studied him as he walked around the salon.
It was definitely his back end. He was stumbling here and there, and he was having a hard time keeping control of his back legs.
Frantic as heck.. I called his parents immediately ..(given Stella’s grim circumstances just months ago😢), .. I may have been freakin out a little! 😬

I recommended that they get him rechecked by another vet… that he definitely wasn’t ok …and I was really worried about him.

I was sure it wasn’t a front paw issue!! (a bit frustrating to hear that was the vets’ diagnosis just days before) .. maybe possibly a really bad bellyache?, but definitely something with his back end or even his spine!

They got him to the ER vet who kept him overnight, sent him for an MRI in the morning, and then rushed him in for spinal surgery immediately after that.
He had a slipped disc and was in a tremendous amount of pain. His mom told me -the vet said it was one of the worst cases he’d ever seen. 😭
She kept in touch with me throughout the day. I was so happy to hear that Hank made it through surgery and was able to return home the next day!!

It was a scary process for all of us, and I can’t imagine being Hank‘s parents going through this again, just shortly after Stella‘s surgery and her very unexpected outcome..
-Hanks sister Stella had to undergo spinal surgery in April, she made it through the procedure but suffered complications a couple days after.. she had myelomelocia - a condition where the spinal cord softens and dies due to trauma or injury..Almost always a fatal diagnosis 😢😔 ( way too soon 😭)

Mom was so grateful that I had been able to notice specific changes in Hank compared to his usual self..

And I am grateful to have the opportunity today; to own a business where I am able to take the time to LOVE these animals and SPEND THE TIME to get to know them SO well….
that I even get to help save their lives 😭😭😭

This is a tough one😭😭

Nala‘s mom and dad brought her to me for her bath, nails and ears- every four weeks, for the last 6 years…

I remember the first day they showed up, SO apprehensive.. Nala wasn’t fond of other dogs nor was she fond of most people.
They were so nervous, not just for their fur child, but for me. They knew that she didn’t always behave so well and had some aggression issues they couldn’t seem to figure out.
I have to say, in the last six years I’ve only ever seen Nala give me a mean side eye and lift her lip when I got too close to her head with the sprayer hose (on the setting she didn’t like) and when she wasn’t in a good mood … ..and I could always tell the days she just wasn’t feeling it..😏
She never liked the dryer. It was too loud and scary for her, and I had a special way of towel drying her, brushing her up, and towel drying her again and then drying her the rest of the way in a crate. It was the only way for her- but she loved it because she got a handful of treats every time she’d run into that crate and lay down😊!!

She always knew to get right up on the table after her bath and followed the command “up up” like she had known it all her life..
She’d let me dremmel her nails and almost always wipe her ears.
For the first few years Nala would barely look me in the eye. She was nervous…she was cold…and she didn’t exactly wanna be my friend.
But I kept working with her every month… praising her good behavior with her favorite treats ..

The first time she gave me “paw”, I was ecstatic!! I couldn’t believe that, regardless of her bitchy attitude she was willing to let down her guard. and show me a little bit of softness inside her…🥲
It wasn’t really often she would look at me in the eye, but we connected on a different type of level… we just had an understanding, I had my boundaries and she had hers and we respected each other.

She was a tough cookie.
But eventually, we became pretty good friends 🥰

It was her time- and she’s pain free now- chasing the squirrels and eating endless amounts of treats❤️
I’m really going to miss her and there will forever be a hole in my heart where Nala once was. ❤️🐾
