Buckle up, it's a long one.
I'll tell ya the truth, when I walked into the show room carrying my weird little duck I just about turned right around and walked back out. There was no way I belonged in the same room as all those other beautiful mounts. But I had paid to do this and I couldn't afford to throw that money away so even with my face flaming red with embarrassment, I dropped my little duck off and power walked straight back to my hotel room where I promptly had a complete melt down. I stayed up until nearly 1am fiercely battling the urge to sneak back down to the showroom, steal my duck away and drive the four hours straight back home and try my best to pretend none of this ever happened. Alas, I was finally lulled to sleep by the Golden Girls and when I woke up the next morning there was nothing more to do but wait and see. At noon the doors were opened and we all could finally see how our mounts placed. I paced around outside for a good long while and then finally slid in the doors and walked as nonchalantly as possible around the last table to catch a glimpse of my duck. And propped right there on the stand was a shiny red ribbon. I walked by it twice before I finally stopped to look at it closely. Look, I know this ain't my very best work, I know that even my very best work wouldn't compare to the things I saw in that showroom. I know that it was only the amateur division. I know it was only a second place ribbon. But it sure did mean something to me. I was there alone and didn't have anyone to celebrate with so thanks for celebrating with me here and now! And I've got some great news: every duck I do will be better than the last! Onward and upward!
