🐍🎃 **HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM SMOKY MTN SERPENT RESCUE!** 🦇👻

It's the one night of the year when everyone wants snakes, spiders, and creepy crawlies around! Well, around here, that's just another day at the rescue! 🐍🦎

While Hollywood has spent decades making snakes and reptiles the villains of scary movies, we're here to remind you that **the real monsters aren't the animals — they're the people who neglect, abuse, and abandon them.** 💚

🕸️ **A few spooky reptile facts:**
🐍 Snakes don't chase people for fun — they'd much rather avoid you!

🦎 Most reptiles are more afraid of you than you are of them.

🎃 That creepy snake in your Halloween decorations? Its real-life counterpart plays an important role in our ecosystem!

👻 Reptiles aren't evil, cursed, or out to get you. They're simply misunderstood!

At Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue, we work year-round to give surrendered and unwanted reptiles a second chance while educating the public about these incredible creatures.

🖤 **This Halloween, fear the fiction — not the scales!**

From our cold-blooded crew to yours, have a **SAFE, SPOOKY, AND SLITHERING HALLOWEEN!** 🎃🐍

🐾🦜 EXCITING NEWS! OUR FOSTER APPLICATION IS NOW ONLINE! 🐍🦎

Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation is excited to announce that our Foster & Volunteer Application is now available online! 🎉

As our rescue continues to grow, so does our need for dedicated individuals willing to make a difference in the lives of exotic animals.

❤️ WHY BECOME A FOSTER?

Fostering provides animals with a safe, loving environment while they await their forever homes. It also allows us to expand our rescue efforts, help more animals in need, and free up valuable space within our facilities.

🏡 WHO CAN APPLY?

We're looking for responsible, compassionate individuals who:

✅ Have experience with exotic animals or are willing to learn.

✅ Can provide a safe, stable, and appropriate environment.

✅ Understand the commitment involved in caring for rescued animals.

✅ Are willing to follow our rescue's care guidelines and foster policies.

✅ Have a genuine passion for animal welfare.

Whether you're experienced with parrots, reptiles, small mammals, or other exotic species, we'd love to hear from you!

📋 APPLY ONLINE TODAY!

Please remember that submitting an application does not guarantee foster placement. All applicants are reviewed to ensure the best possible match for both the animals and foster families.

💚 You don't have to adopt an animal to change its life. Sometimes, all it takes is opening your home temporarily.

Thank you for helping us continue our mission of rescue, rehabilitation, education, and responsible rehoming throughout East Tennessee!

🎉🐾 TWO YEARS OF RESCUE, REHABILITATION & SECOND CHANCES! 🦜🐍

October 17th officially marked 2 YEARS of Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation! ❤️

What started as a passion for helping parrots in need has grown into something bigger than we ever imagined.

Over the past two years, we've expanded from Smoky Mtn Parrot Rescue into an organization that now includes Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue, Smoky Mountain Fish Rescue, and our broader exotic animal rescue efforts.

We've taken in animals from heartbreaking situations, helped families facing impossible decisions, provided education, and worked tirelessly to give countless exotic animals the second chances they deserve.

But behind every successful rescue are the things most people never see. The sleepless nights, emergency calls, endless cleaning, veterinary expenses, long-distance transports, and personal sacrifices. Running a volunteer-operated, largely self-funded rescue isn't easy, and there have certainly been moments when we've questioned how we'd keep going.

But then we look at the animals we've helped, and we're reminded exactly why we started. ❤️

To our volunteers, fosters, adopters, supporters, rescue partners, and everyone who has trusted us with an animal they love: THANK YOU.

We wouldn't be where we are today without you.

We're incredibly proud of how far we've come, but we're even more excited about what's ahead. There are still so many animals that need help, so many people who need education, and so much more work to be done.

Two years down, and we're just getting started! 🐾

Here's to many more years of saving lives, one animal at a time.

🎉🐍 Happy Birthday, Jessica! 🐍🎉

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize someone who plays a huge role in Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue!

Without Jessica, we never would have been able to bring our serpent facility to life. She's my go-to girl for anything and everything reptile-related, and her knowledge, dedication, and willingness to help have been invaluable to our rescue.

A lot of what Jessica does happens behind the scenes, and while it may not always be seen by the public, that doesn't make her contributions any less important. She's a huge part of what keeps things running, and we couldn't do what we do without her!

Jessica, thank you for everything you do, the countless hours you put in, and for helping turn a vision into reality.

Please join us in wishing Jessica a very Happy Birthday! 🎂🦎❤️

🎉🐍 **Happy Birthday, Tre!** 🦜🐾

Today, we want to take a moment to wish a very happy birthday to someone who plays a huge role in Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation!

Tre serves on our Board of Directors and is one of those people who does a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes that most people never get to see.

From offering advice and sharing his knowledge to helping us navigate some of the more unusual situations we encounter, Tre is an important part of what keeps this organization going.

One thing I personally appreciate about Tre is that he's my go-to person when we take in an animal or species I haven't worked with before. No matter how much experience you have working with exotics, there's always something new to learn, and having someone knowledgeable you can call on makes a world of difference.

Running a rescue that works with such a wide variety of animals isn't always easy, and having people like Tre in our corner makes it a whole lot easier.

Tre, thank you for everything you do for our animals, our organization, and the people behind it. Your time, knowledge, and dedication don't go unnoticed, even when most of your work happens outside the spotlight.

🎂 **Everyone help us wish Tre a very Happy Birthday!** We hope you have an awesome day, and we're grateful to have you as part of the SMER family! ❤️🐾

🐾 DONATIONS WE CAN USE — THAT YOU MAY NOT THINK OF! 🦜🐍🐢🐠

When you think about donating to an animal rescue, food and money probably come to mind first — but there are a TON of everyday items that we go through constantly at Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation!

Some things we can always put to good use:

📰 Old newspapers — seriously, save them for us! We use a LOT.

🛏️ New or gently used sheets, blankets & pillowcases

🧺 New or gently used towels & washcloths

🧻 Paper towels

🧼 Animal Safe Cleaning supplies

🗑️ Trash bags

📦 Cardboard boxes

🧤 Disposable gloves

🥣 Stainless steel bowls & dishes

🧸 Animal-safe toys & enrichment items

🐾 Pet carriers, crates & usable cages/enclosures

Even something that seems small can save us money and supplies that can then be put toward the care of the animals.

With the number and variety of animals that come through our doors, we can find a use for some pretty unexpected things!

Before throwing those old newspapers or extra towels away, think of the rescue. ❤️

🐾 Why Do We Run Four Different Rescues? 🦜🐍🐠🐾

One question we get fairly often is: Why not just put everything under one rescue?

The simple answer is that the animals we work with are incredibly different, and we believe each group deserves specialized attention.

Smoky Mtn Exotics is the umbrella behind our four rescue divisions:

🦜 Smoky Mtn Parrot Rescue
🐍 Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue
🐠 Smoky Mountain Fish Rescue
🐾 Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation

While we all work toward the same overall mission—helping animals in need—each division allows us to focus on the specific care, knowledge, equipment, housing, adoption requirements, and resources those animals need.

A parrot does not have the same needs as a snake. A snake does not have the same needs as an axolotl or aquarium fish. And our small mammals and other exotic species come with an entirely different set of requirements.

Keeping separate rescue divisions also allows us to:

• Keep information and educational resources species-specific.
• Make it easier for adopters and owners to find exactly what they need.
• Maintain appropriate housing, quarantine, and safety procedures.
• Use adoption and surrender processes designed for those particular animals.
• Build relationships with people and organizations who specialize in each area.
• Grow each rescue without losing sight of the individual needs of the animals.

Behind the scenes, however, we are still one team with one mission.

Our rescues work together, share resources when appropriate, and support one another. Separating them isn't about making ourselves look bigger—it is about staying organized and making sure the animals receive the specialized care they deserve.

As we continue to grow, our goal remains the same: help as many animals as we responsibly can while never sacrificing the quality of their care. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who follows, shares, adopts, fosters, donates, volunteers, and supports what we do. Every one of our rescue divisions exists because there was a need—and because our community continues to help us meet it.

🐍 The Smokies Lost a Legend 🐍

From all of us at Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue, our hearts are with Dolly Parton’s family, friends, the Dollywood family, and everyone across East Tennessee mourning her loss.

Being based here in Pigeon Forge, Dolly’s impact is impossible to separate from the community around us. She helped bring the Smoky Mountains to the world while never losing the kindness, generosity, humor, and love for home that made her so special.

At Smoky Mtn Serpent Rescue, we believe compassion should extend to every living thing—even the animals people often misunderstand or fear. Dolly’s lifelong example of kindness and giving is the kind of legacy that reaches far beyond music.

Thank you, Dolly, for everything you gave to Sevier County, Tennessee, and the Smoky Mountains.

Your voice, your generosity, and your love for these mountains will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Queen of the Smokies. 🖤🐍
