🎉🐾 Happy 8th Birthday to my heart dog, Rocco 🐾🎉

If you told me years ago that this is what 8 would look like…
I wouldn’t have believed you.

Because I’ve seen the other side.

I’ve seen the hives.
The itching.
The medications.
The frustration of doing everything… and still not getting answers.

But today?
THIS is what 4 years of whole food nutrition looks like.

💥 Clear, healthy skin
💥 Bright, alert eyes
💥 Strong, lean body
💥 Energy that doesn’t match his age

And I’ll say it boldly…
He did NOT look like this when he was eating the other food.

No shade. Just truth.

Because here’s what I’ve learned as a veterinary pharmacist and dog mom:

You can’t expect a body to heal on food that’s keeping it inflamed.

And sometimes…
✨ The proof isn’t in the prescription.
✨ The proof is in the bowl.

Rocco is living proof that when you give the body what it actually needs…
It responds.

It heals.
It regenerates.
It thrives.

So today, we celebrate more than a birthday…
We celebrate what’s possible.

And if you’ve ever wondered if food could make a difference for your dog…
This is your sign. 💙

The Dirty Dozen & Clean Fifteen… But for Your Dog’s Bowl

Every year, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) releases their list of produce with the highest and lowest pesticide residues.

For humans, this is helpful.
But for dogs—especially those dealing with allergies, gut issues, or chronic inflammation— this matters even more.

Because now we’re not just talking about food…we’re talking about toxic load + immune response + skin flare-ups.

Let’s break this down the right way 👇

🔴 DOG-SAFE DIRTY DOZEN (Buy Organic, Skip or Wash Very Well)

These are higher in pesticide residue when conventional—and for sensitive dogs, that can add fuel to inflammation.

Always organic or spray-free if using:

Spinach (limit due to oxalates)
Kale, collards, mustard greens (rotate, don’t overfeed)
Strawberries
Nectarines (no pits)
Peaches (no pits)
Cherries (no pits, very limited)
Apples (no seeds)
Blackberries
Pears (no seeds)
Potatoes (must be cooked, watch starch load)
Blueberries

🚫 Removed for safety:
Grapes → toxic to dogs (never include, organic or not)

🟢 DOG-SAFE CLEAN FIFTEEN (Lower Pesticide Load)

These are generally lower in pesticide residue and safer options when sourced conventionally—but still require proper washing.

Pineapple (small amounts)
Papaya (supports digestion)
Watermelon (seedless)
Mango (remove skin)
Bananas (easy on the gut)
Carrots (fiber + crunch)
Asparagus (prebiotic support)
Cabbage (lightly cooked)
Cauliflower (fiber + anti-inflammatory compounds)
Sweet peas
Mushrooms (culinary only—never wild)
Kiwi (introduce slowly)

⚠️ Use with awareness:
Avocado (small amounts only, higher fat—not ideal for all dogs)
Sweet corn (can be inflammatory in sensitive dogs)

🚫 Removed for safety:
Onions → toxic to dogs

🧼 Important: Washing Matters More Than You Think

If you’re buying conventionally grown produce,
rinsing with water is NOT enough.

🥳To reduce pesticide residue:

→ Soak in a baking soda + water solution (10–15 minutes)
→ Or use a vinegar rinse (1:3 vinegar to water)
→ Rinse thoroughly after

Because what’s on the food matters just as much as the food itself.

You can feed “clean” foods…
and still have a dog that’s itching.

Because it’s not just about pesticides or ingredients.

It’s about:
→ the gut
→ the balance
→ and the dose

If your dog is still stuck in the itch → meds → repeat cycle,
it’s time to clean this up at the root.

Book a free “Bark & Brainstorm” call with me and we’ll map out how to reduce toxic load and build a properly balanced, anti-inflammatory plan that supports real healing.

Because when food is done right—
you stop managing symptoms… and start changing outcomes.

🚨 Big News (Pending Paw Approval!) 🐾

We might be adding a new member to our pack in just a few weeks… pending the boys’ official verdict when they meet her! 🤞🐶🐰

Meet this sweet little love bug 🩷—a pittie mix found as a stray in Memphis, TN. Thankfully, a kind-hearted soul took her in and has been fostering her ever since. She’s about 9–11 months old, 40 pounds, and full of cuddles (according to her foster mom 💕).

But what really tugged at my heart? She also struggles with allergies—and when I saw her adoption post in another group, I just knew…
This girl was meant to be on a healing journey with us.

So I said YES. I’ll take her. I’ll get her on the road to recovery—just like I did for Rocco.

Keep your fingers crossed that introductions go well, and that the boys approve of their (potential) new little sister. We’ll be meeting her soon—and I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

✨Welcome to the possibility of healing, safety, and second chances, sweet girl. You’re already so loved. 💕

🐾 Why Your Dog Keeps Licking… And What It’s Really Telling You

Is your dog constantly licking their paws?
Gnawing at their legs or belly?
Scratching even though you’ve tried everything?

And no—I don’t mean the normal grooming licks.
I’m talking about the excessive licking that’s trying to tell you something deeper is going on.

Here’s what most people don’t realize:

That licking is often a sign of environmental allergies—triggered by what’s getting into your dog’s bloodstream.

🌿 How It Starts

Your dog goes outside.
Allergens like grass, pollen, and mold cling to their coat and paws.
Then they come inside… and start licking—over and over again.

But here’s the kicker:

Every time your dog licks, they’re not just soothing the itch—they’re also ingesting those allergens.

And if your dog has leaky gut (which many allergy-prone dogs do), those allergens can slip through the gut lining and enter the bloodstream, just like they do through the skin.

➡️ The result?
An activated immune system.
Redness.
Hives.
Itching.
Swelling.

These are not just “surface” issues.
They’re signs of an overwhelmed body trying to defend itself from constant invaders—ones your dog is literally licking into their mouth.

Hygiene is Step One

Wiping your dog’s paws and coat after every walk helps stop allergens before they ever get licked or absorbed.
It’s one of the most important—but often skipped—steps in managing allergies.

But hygiene alone won’t fix the inside.

Food is the Long-Term Fix

The right diet can:

✅ Strengthen the skin AND gut barrier
✅ Support a calm, balanced immune system
✅ Reduce inflammation
✅ Lower the need for meds like Apoquel or Cytopoint

Because you don’t just want to mask the symptoms—
You want to heal the root cause.

I’m opening up a few spots for a free Bark & Brainstorm chat to help you understand what your dog’s excessive licking is really telling you—and how to calm it naturally from the inside out.

Your dog does not have to deal with environmental allergies forever.

🔥 Why Are Your Dog’s Allergies Worse in the Summer?

You’re not imagining it—itchy season is in full swing.
If your dog is flaring up with red skin, hives, ear gunk, or nonstop scratching, summer might be the trigger. But why?

Let’s break it down

🐾 1. Pollen Party
Summer = peak pollen season.
Grasses, weeds, and trees release microscopic particles that stick to your dog’s paws, nose, belly, and coat—then enter the body through the nose, mouth, and skin, triggering an internal immune reaction.

☀️ 2. Heat = Histamine Storm
Hot weather naturally ramps up inflammation.
If your dog already has allergies, heat can make their symptoms worse by increasing histamine release—the chemical that fuels itching and swelling.

🐝 3. More Bugs, More Bites
Fleas, mosquitoes, and other insects are out in full force.
Even a single bite can set off a hypersensitive reaction in dogs with allergy-prone skin.

🚿 4. Pool Days & Yard Sprays
Chlorine, lawn chemicals, or garden pesticides can weaken your dog’s skin barrier, making it easier for allergens to sneak inside and activate the immune system.

🌱 5. More Outdoor Time = More Exposure
Walks, hikes, sniffing grass, rolling around—it’s great for enrichment but adds constant allergen exposure to an already reactive system.

Summer doesn’t have to mean suffering.
When you support your dog’s gut and immune system from the inside out, their body can handle allergens better—without all the meds and flare-ups.

🌿 Environmental Allergies + Skin: What You’re Not Being Told at the Vet

Let’s talk about something most dog parents aren’t told…

Your dog’s skin is porous—just like yours.
It’s their largest organ. And just like how chemicals from lotions or soaps can get into your bloodstream, environmental allergens can do the same to your dog.

How Do Allergens Get Into the Bloodstream?

When your dog walks outside—barefoot, rolling in grass, sniffing the ground—they’re coming into contact with pollen, mold, grass proteins, dust, dirt, trash, and even lawn chemicals.

Normally, the skin forms a tight barrier that keeps those things out.

But in allergic dogs, that barrier is often weakened or inflamed—what we call “leaky skin.”

⚠️ And here’s the important part:
For an allergic reaction to happen, the environmental allergen must enter the body—usually through the skin, nose, or gut.

Once inside, it can:
• Slip into the bloodstream or lymph system
• Be flagged by the immune system as a “threat”
• Trigger itching, inflammation, paw licking, ear infections, and more

This explains why your dog might break out after a walk—even if they didn’t eat anything new.
Because external allergens can go internal when the skin is compromised.

What Can You Do About It?

You can’t keep your dog in a bubble—and you shouldn’t.
Sniffing, rolling, exploring—that’s part of a healthy, happy life.

But you can control two major things:

1. What’s left on their body after walks
2. What goes in their bowl every day

Here’s what I do for Rocco:
✅ Wipe down paws and coat after every outing
✅ Use chlorhexidine soaks during flares
✅ Protect his belly and back with a T-shirt
✅ Feed anti-inflammatory, whole food meals to reduce internal inflammation and help the skin rebuild

Because when you support the gut, the skin, and the immune system together—you reduce symptoms, reduce meds, and get your happy dog back.
