They don’t make ’em like this anymore! 💪🏆
Huge congratulations to Spanx (from our Lunchbox × Orca litter) for passing the Working Aptitude Evaluation (WAE) at the DPCA Regional this weekend—officially earning the Register of Merit (ROM) distinction as well!
From the DPCA website, “The perfection we seek is embodied in three sets of characteristics: those of conformation, temperament, and trainability. This ROM and WAE program has, as its fundamental purpose, the recognition of Dobermans having those natural qualities of beauty and functional utility that make the breed what it was intended to be.
In order to earn a WAC, a Doberman must demonstrate the characteristics required of a dog to be a stable companion and resolute protector.”
The pass rate for the WAE is currently only 49%, meaning less than half of the Dobermans tested successfully demonstrate the correct breed temperament balance of confidence, stability, and courage. I remember years ago at my first WAEs, seeing dogs go full-force at the “bad guy.” These days, many seem more hesitant or passive—and as a breeder, I’d love to see more Dobermans showing an intentional and intense protective reaction combined with a stable recovery once the threat is gone and appropriate behavior around non threatening strangers.
Spanx did exactly that. She was intense and serious in the moment, but appropriately neutral and sweet before and after. That’s what a Doberman should be—the only breed specifically bred for the personal protection of man.
To earn the ROM a Doberman must achieve all:
1) Championship in Conformation
2) Advanced Performance/Working Title
3) Working Aptitude Certificate
Showing they are the total package this breed was created to be.
Spanx is Prima’s 17th WAC and 4th ROM!
Congratulations to her incredible owners Blake & Kristi Simmons—Spanx is the epitome of beauty, brains, and bravery. I cannot be more thrilled and proud!!!
