Getting the rattlesnake out of the cage ✅ Getting the snake to stay in the bucket…

Did you think he just easily stayed in the bucket after the last video I posted? Bojangles might have come out of his habitat easily but it seems it was because he wanted to explore. He eventually stayed put long enough for me to clean his habitat but as you can see he had other plans today. 🐍
Thanks for watching! ✌️

Bojangles wanted out today! I walked by his enclosure and he was right at the door as if to tell me “hey I made a mess for you…Can you get me outta here.”
Getting him out of his enclosure was the easy part. Getting him to stay in the bucket was a little trickier today. I’ll post that part of the video next. It ran a little long for one reel. 😅🐍

Introducing Spot’s new rattle!
Spot, my Western Diamondback recently broke off his entire rattle after somehow cracking the base segment. For the next few weeks he was completely silent.
That is because rattles make their sound by shaking the loosely connected segments together. When he broke off all the segments of his rattle he could still shake his tail but there were no segments to click together to make sound.

Maybe that’s the answer to the Zen riddle “what is the sound of one hand clapping?” It is the same sound as one segment rattling. 🐍🧘‍♂️

Does Spot’s rattle still work? 🐍When his rattle first broke off his tail was completely silent. I posted a few reels where you could see him rattle but there was no sound coming from it.

Now that he has shed his skin once and has a new segment on his rattle the two segments can clack together when he rattles. So long story short Spot’s tail is finally off of mute and sounds like a rattlesnake again!
I missed hearing him rattle when I interacted with him so I was thrilled when I walked by and heard him rattle for the first time in weeks. Spot rattling at me was actually how I found out he shed since he shed inside his hide. It was almost like he rattled just to let me know he was done shedding and ready for me to remove his skin.

Slow motion rattlesnake strike!
If you look closely you might be able to see Spot’s fangs.
He eats frozen/thawed rodents because it is safer for both of us and it is more humane for the rodent.
Spot’s venom glands are intact. It is also impossible to permanently remove a snakes fangs because they grow new fangs throughout their life. 🐍 Thanks for watching! ✌️

What shaking a rattlesnake rattle by hand sounds like! 🐍

The video of finding this rattle when Spot first broke it off is going around again. This time the number one comment I keep seeing in my notifications are people ranging from disappointed to outraged that I never gave the rattle a real shake.
…And they are so right! Hopefully this is what you were waiting for.
