One of our homeless neighbors is in need of some community support right now!

This is Gordo, who has been a truly faithful and guiding support system for his dad through their journey with homelessness. Gordo’s dad has found himself in that impossible position where he must choose between improving his life or continuing to put both himself and Gordo in danger by living on the streets in this Phoenix weather.

To make matters worse, Gordo was unexpectedly picked up by Animal Control officers and taken to doggy jail (MCCAC) simply for being homeless. At the shelter, without having prior information, they have renamed Gordo to Shilo. He was very scared after being arrested and taken from where he was faithfully waiting for his dad, and as a result of this anxiety, his first behavioral evaluation did not go well. Gordo/Shiloh was placed on a yellow marker, meaning he will likely be at risk for euthanasia when the time comes for the overcrowded shelter to make some cuts. He has shown major improvements in subsequent evaluations, yet the yellow marker remains.

Gordo is off-leash trained with good recall and already knows basic commands. He is good with dogs but will likely chase cats. As his adoption is through MCCAC, Gordo/Shiloh will come neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, and you will have a coupon for a free wellness check from a list of participating veterinarians.

A neighbor has generously offered to cover the adoption fee if we can get Gordo into a stable and loving home where his dad can be reassured that he will be well taken care of. As with all Coronado Rescue dogs, I will provide discounted dog walks/pet sitting as needed for Gordo if adopted within the Coronado neighborhood.

If you are even considering adding a new family member to your home, PLEASE consider saving Gordo from the euthanasia list ASAP!
