Places you can take your dogs!

Raise your hand if you're nervous to cut your dogs nails! Everyone is, myself included. This is why I wrote a whole article about how not to make you're dog bleed!

It is no surprise that many people delay or avoid nail trimming all together which can lead to lameness, paw licking, arthritis from chronic inflammation and decline in overall health.

I've been telling this to my clients for years!

🀏 If your groomer is routinely expressing your dog’s a**l glands, it could be doing more harm than good.

In healthy dogs, these glands should empty naturally during bowel movementsπŸ’©β€”not by force. Repeated squeezing can traumatize the delicate ducts, which can lead to chronic inflammation, scar tissue that can affect the gland’s proper function, and long-term damage.

Even worse, every manual expression carries the risk of introducing bacteria🦠 and triggering infection. Unless there’s a medical reason, it’s best to leave healthy glands alone.

But here’s the thing: when those glands don’t empty naturally - and you start noticing that fishy odor🀒 - it’s usually a sign there’s a deeper issue.

Without enough pressure during a bowel movement, those glands don’t empty like they’re supposed to β€” and that leads to inflammation, impactions, and in some cases, full-on infections.

What’s causing those mushy poops in the first place? Often, it’s a mix of:
πŸ₯¦ Low-fiber diets
πŸ— Food sensitivities (like chicken, beef, or dairy)
🦠 Gut microbiome imbalance
🀏 Routine expression at the groomer

If your dog is struggling with soft stool:οΏ½Add a small dose of slippery elm or psyllium husk to your dog’s meals β€” it can help bulk up stool and encourage the glands to empty on their own.

πŸ₯£ Start with ΒΌ tsp for small dogs and increase up to 1 tsp for large breeds, based on size. Always introduce slowly, and always ensure plenty of hydration!πŸ’§

This Sunday at 12pm EST, we’re unpacking everything you need to know about a**l gland health β€” and how to fix it. We’ll cover home remedies, anti-inflammatory supplements, and Dr. Becker’s protocols for infection, impaction and more! PLUS all of the information from this episode, with dosages and recipes, will be available in a downloadable PDF on the Inside Scoop group page!

My Quick Guide to A**l Gland Health πŸ’©

If your pup’s behind is a bit... fishy 🐟, it could be a sign of something deeper than just a smelly problem. In healthy dogs, a**l glands should empty naturally during firm bowel movements β€” not by routine squeezing. Manually expressing them too often can cause trauma, chronic inflammation, and even infection. 😬

So why aren't they emptying properly? The culprit is usually mushy poops. Without enough pressure, those little sacs don’t drain like they should. That’s when inflammation, impaction, and discomfort begin to set in.

The root causes often include:
πŸ₯¦ Low-fiber diets
πŸ— Common food sensitivities (like chicken or beef)
🦠 Gut microbiome imbalance
βœ‚οΈ Frequent expression at the groomer

πŸ‘‰ To help support gland function and firmer stools, try adding a small amount of any of the fibers shown to your dog's meals:
β€’ 1/4-1/2 tsp for small dogs 🐢
β€’1/2-1 tsp for medium dogs
β€’ 1-2 tsp for large breeds πŸ•
β€’2-3 tsp for extra large breeds(>90 lbs)
(Always introduce slowly and keep hydration levels high! πŸ’§)

Today at 12pm EST in the Inside Scoop, join us as I dive into remedies, anti-inflammatory herbs, gut health protocols, and solutions for impacted or infected glands.

🎁 Bonus: Get the full guide β€” with dosages, recipes, and supplement tips β€” in a downloadable PDF available on the Inside Scoop group page!

I really enjoyed grooming this adorable Doodle today for the first time at my private, grooming studio. Her Mom and Dad loved her haircut!
At my studio, your dog is the only dog here during it's appointment. I don't have cages. Your dog gets groomed right away and you pick it up the moment I am done. No stress, beautiful groomings.....
