Our sweet Henley blessed our life for more than 20 years. We adopted him when he was a kitten on a 4th of July weekend. It was an experience we will always cherish. We wanted a kitten for our dear Raven. She was a beautiful black flat coated retriever. Raven was also a rescue from our neighborhood Petco a year prior. She was the sweetest dog that loved cats. To explain a little better, our friend who moved in temporarily had a few cats. Raven welcomed them with all her love and only the senior cat accepted Raven's big black nose in her face expressing her unconditional daily love. Raven kept busy following them around the house, the other two cats would hiss and swat at her face but that didn't stop Raven's enthusiastic interest in her new house guests. When our friend moved out, Raven became sad, so sad she wasn't eating. We took her to our Veterinarian we were getting worried about her. Dr. Porter said there was nothing physically wrong. She asked what was different in Raven's life. After we spoke about the cats moving out, she suggested that Raven was in need of a four-legged friend to cheer her up. From the 1st moment that Raven met Henley her heart was happy and so was Henley's. Even though Raven had never given birth to pups, she shared her mother's love with Henley and even let him nurse on her. They were inseparable. I believe that love from Raven helped in Henley's long life. Later Raven passed from old age. Thankfully Henley was a healthy little guy. He never really had any health issues that we couldn't correct with the advice from Dr. Porter.
Henley became blind overnight last year just before Thanksgiving. With all the adjustments we attempted even hiring our long-time pet sitter to help him through the 10-hour days while we were at work. He just never adjusted; he seemed more stressed than he has ever been his entire life. It broke our heart to hear him meow each time his little old head hit the wall as he walked through the house, his meow sounded like ow. We spent our Thanksgiving with him and gave him so much love and attention. Our Veterinary assisted in his euthanasia the Friday after. My last words to him was Raven is waiting for you, we love you so much and we will miss you dearly.
I wanted to share my love for Henley as he was so handsome as a profile picture. Today I need to replace his picture with our new business logo. I'm also sharing our favorite pictures of Henley and Raven, I hope you enjoy them.
