NJVTA, the credentialing body for Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT) in New Jersey, has announced a significant bylaw change that will impact credentialing requirements. This change, passed via membership vote on January 31, 2025, will officially take effect on January 1, 2027.

Key Changes to Credentialing Requirements
✅ Effective January 1, 2027, the NJVTA will no longer recognize reciprocity as a pathway for credentialing. Moving forward, all new NJVTA applicants must meet the following certification criteria:
1️⃣ Passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE)
2️⃣ Graduated from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology/Nursing program

What is the new VTNE process?

Last year, AAVSB announced changes to the VTNE process. NAVTA met with AAVSB to get clarifications on those changes and, afterward, asked AAVSB to issue a revised announcement. Here is what AAVSB provided.

Beginning in 2025, the VTNE application process will be streamlined! Eligible candidates will apply directly with the AAVSB to sit for the VTNE.

Who is eligible to sit for the VTNE does not change; if the state/province allows on-the-job-training or an alternate pathway, they will continue to do so.

Also, beginning in 2025, the AAVSB will accept VTNE testing in the final semester if a candidate's accredited program allows it.

Happy holidays, Manor Vet Tech Alums! We are in desparate need of help with the HORSES over winter break. Many Horse Care Team members are sick or too far away or otherwise unable to participate as needed.
