Q- I need advice on reactivity. I need her to be neutral in public spaces. When she sees a person, she gets super excited because she wants to be their friend and loses all focus on me. She's my SDIT, she's almost 4 months old, and a Lab.

A- Hello Anon! I wouldn’t go as far as classifying her behavior as reactivity yet. This is a normal behavioral hump to get over for her age and breed. The first thing I would recommend is to learn about the 3 Ds of dog training (link below) while playing the engage-disengaging game. The key to this issue is to make yourself the most valuable thing in her environment. I’ve added an infographic in the comments that goes over this game. Please don’t hesitate to ask follow-up questions in the comments or via PM.

3 Ds:

Incorporate duration, distance, and distraction into your training to ensure your dog understands what you’re asking them to do.
