Hike & Train Adventures... Today a lot was happening. We had Stella for her first Hike & Train Adventures. She did very well today. She sat nicely in the car, was happy to meet the other dogs in our crew. She did her commands nicely although was easily distracted. That is completely normal for the first day. She was heavily praised and rewarded for the commands she did.

Also, Buckley was off leash again. This time he had to do his commands without having his sister around. That is a different experience for him. This teaches him to know them on his own and not rely on his sister. As you notice he did great!

Each dog is at different levels of learning. This allows them to work at their pace and still have a great time with us.

Welcome Stella! Stella is excited about joining our Hike & Train Adventures! Follow along to watch her progress.

Hike & Train Adventures... It was all good until we got rained on. The look on Savannah and Charle's faces said we need to head back. Cooper and Buckley were happy to be with friends no matter the weather.

Then there was a break in the rain. Check out Buckley off leash for the first time! He did fantastic with recall! Nico was happy to show Buckley the way on the trails. Ella made sure her brother was paying attention to the commands.

Hike & Train Adventures... Recall training in progress. Definitely use a long line when starting. Here Stanley did recall... let's break it down.

1. He recalled when he heard the command.

2. He did not recall directly to me.

3. He was distracted and focused on what was in the bushes.

4. I still made hi@ follow through on the command! (MOST IMPORTANT)!

5. I immediately closed the distance between him and made him follow through on the come command.

6. He made eye contact with me and was able to focus on me.

7. We continue the process until I get 100 percent recall. (THIS TAKES TIME and it means you build a relationship with your dog).

This is what I got on video. Then we continued on the trail still practicing recall and making progress on the follow through. Remember it's the environment vs you. Your dog is making that decision constantly. Make them not think twice about it to pick YOU!

Hike & Train Adventures... Water Day Adventures with hiking to dry off. First time Stanley was in the water with us. Lulu was trying to have a peaceful swim but the kids next to us were singing to her!

George has a great recall and Stanley is learning from him! Stanley decided it was a race and won but didn't tell George he was racing!

Leroy also decided to race Miles and not tell him! Check out how amazing Leroy's recall is!

Overall, today my newer pups did their commands the fastest compared to the OG's! I think the OG's know it's only the beginning of summer and are pacing themselves.

Hike & Train Adventures... Love is in the water! Perfect day for water adventures.

Hike & Train Adventures... We know it's not a big deal, but your dog thinks it is! Anything out of the ordinary your dog can see as a threat. This is why I always name the thing or person. Then I can say what it is, use my marker word and reward.

Example: Good chair, yes and then reward. Your marker word tells your dog he is good and a reward is coming.
Here I actually told them to check. Which they also know as non threatening. Did you notice once I told them to check they realized it was not a big deal and we moved on.

Not acknowledging what your dog is concerned about is what leads to your dog taking action that doesn't result in good behavior. When you show your dog that you have control of what is concerning to them you build their trust.

Hike & Train Adventures... It was a recall kind of day. Buckley is now on a regular leash and not a long line for recall. He doing great with the command on his own. Ella and Nico also do great with their come command.

Hike & Train Adventures... It was a rock climbing day! Tons to explore and sniff.

Hike & Train Adventures... We train commands, we play, explore and enjoy nature. Here I wanted to start to reinforce Stanley's commands while the others could not help him. This environment is extremely distracting and overstimulating for Stanley. That is exactly why he is with us to learn and teach him to follow through on commands in these situations. Then of course we had playtime. It did get interrupted by someone coming down the trail, so we took a break. Trail etiquette.is mandatory for my dogs.

Hike & Train Adventures... Recall training takes time, commitment, patience and consistency. First come command, Buckley was focused on me and recalled nicely. Second time he was distracted and still followed through on the come command! Both scenarios build upon each other. Notice he is also still on a long line. This is because he still occasionally needs guidance. Distractions are tough for dogs, especially puppies. The more he succeeds the faster he wants to do well.
