Happy Monday!
Wishing all our friends a wonderful and safe holiday season!
Be still my heart. Remember this gal from Wasco Shelter - Monet, now Roxy? She was hopeful for a pal to play with, so her family adopted another pup from the same shelter - they named him Blu. I'd say they are getting along quite well.
Today was a drop everything and run to the shelter kind of day - this gal finally caught her break and we were happy to be able to swipe her out of the Wasco Shelter (thank you Ann!) and help get her on her way to her rescue and the life she deserves
Roxy (Monet from Wasco Shelter) has arrived in Northern California and found an awesome family to call her own. What a difference a couple weeks makes in the life of a rescued shetler dog! Thank you to the village for the tag-team effort in saving her. And thank you to her new family for opening their home to her. Happy trails sweet girl

Thank you to Adam Fogel, Rudy Pock, Emily Burnias and Molly Jackson for your donations. And thank you to Molly Jackson & Amie Marhx for asking for donations to help animals for your birthday celebrations! These donations have gone to neuter vetting for this guy - Nikolaj from Wasco Shelter. Once a stray, severely injured and in pain needing crisis vetting, which his fans stepped up to get done for him. Now, has had his routine vetting, is enjoying his foster home and is one step closer to finding the forever home he deserves. Thank you
Thank you to everyone that helped with the Santa's Sleigh transport event which was quite the tag team effort ! Drivers, helpers, donors, fosters, shelter staff, rescue coordinators and of course the rescues that made room during the holiday season when staffing and fosters are often down in numbers. 35 animals from rural shelters in central California got to spend this holiday week in rescues and homes rather than cold and lonely shelters. We were glad to be a part of it. These animals will receive the gift of finding their forever homes. ♥

Well, good thing the kitties are not driving the sleigh tomorrow!
Thank you to all our supporters - rescuers, networkers, drivers, and donors who are helping make this happen! And a huge shout-out to Underdogz co-founder, Ann, for spending today prepping the van & playing a puzzle game with the crates to get everyone safely on board in preparation for the drive tomorrow.
Let's see these animals out of the shelters
Friends, it’s holiday transport time!
On December 19th, we will set out for our goal to get animals out of rural shelters and supplies heading back to shelters to the animals that are not lucky enough to leave.
Here’s how it works: we are happy to be able to participate in the Santa’s Sleigh team event with other rescuers. Santa’s Sleigh (Underdogz van) will be picking up shelter animals at Wasco, Delano & McFarland animal shelters and heading north to meet a team of rescuers ready to deliver these animals to different rescue stops in the SF Bay area. We will also be collecting supplies that we can send back to the shelters. If you live in the North bay and would like to donate blankets, wet canned cat and dog food, Costco cat food (orange bag) please PM us. There is also a way to help online - see below
We want to thank our monthly donor Rudy Pock and all those that select Underdogz for igive and Amazon Smile benefits – you have made this van rental possible!
The event flyer is in comments below, along with the wish list items identified by the shelters and main volunteers that work their hardest to take the sick, young and special needs animals home for extra care. If you can rescue an animal from these shelters, please contact Jennie Adams (see flyer) and if you want to purchase a holiday gift for shelter animals – we have put together a wish list through our Amazon wish list, also listed below.
Tax-deductible donations for shelter needs can also be made to Paypal [email protected].
Our tax ID # is 46-0791807
Rescue, donate, spread the word, send animals a holiday gift.
Will you help us?
Just hangin' with my foster bro. Headed back to UC Davis tomorrow for a check up on my mouth healing. Thank you to everyone that has helped me get here.
- Nikolaj
Who's ready to see some cute pics of shelter animals getting OUT of the shelters for the holidays? Stay tuned - and get excited!
Medical foster. This is Nikolaj from Wasco Animal Shelter. He has had so many wonderful people step up to help him in his time of need - No Paws Left Behind, Busters Pet Fund and all of the awesome people that shared his story and fund-raised, flew him to Northern CA, drove, fostered (and anyone that may have not been listed) to get him to his mouth surgery at UC Davis. He needs to wear his muzzle to keep his jaw in place, has a long list of care instructions and has follow-up appts scheduled with Davis and when he's cleared, he will be ready to find the home he deserves. What an amazing village!

My supervisor found a stray dog in Visalia and cannot keep her because she is not good with cats. Was checked for microchip already - none. She is young, sweet, playful pup.. gets along with the other dogs but is still learning about leashes and not playing too rough. If anyone knows someone interested or has rescue contact ideas please let me know thanks.
Russian River, Sonoma County, CA.
On Friday, September 4, 2015, the Sonoma County Department of Health Services issued a health warning to the public to keep animals away from the Russian River.
Arvin area!
Our dog Penny went missing on Saturday 7/18 in Arvin around the high school. She is brown with white legs, nervous and skittish. Please share to help us find her. REWARD if found.
Could not have said it better - please keep your pets inside & with you tomorrow!
JULY 4th REALITY CHECK: Once in a while, we have to have a really blunt moment. July 4th is fun for humans, and absolute hell for animals. We've spent this week encouraging pet owners to plan ahead, make sure pets have ID, and update chips. Folks, we're the agency who is going to come out and pick your 'hit by a car' deceased dog/cat up off the ground, or come to the scene of a serious injury. Injured pets will go immediately to VCA, where you will be responsible for the bill, citations etc... In a fraction of a second, tomorrow can go from big fun, to the worst day ever. If you heed our warnings, and keep your pets secure indoors- your pets will be safe, and we'll all have a wonderful day. Please, please, please, bring pets inside. So many tears, so much suffering can be avoided with a little planning. Here's to a safe Fourth!
Thank you, Bad Rap, for rescuing Lottie - and for this awesome update tribute.
Lottie: Rescued in honor of Carol Parks.
Situated in Central CA, the rural Wasco Animal Shelter faces extreme challenges. Wasco's poverty rate of 21.8% is higher than the national average and dog & cat owners have little to no support for training or affordable veterinary care. The shelter animals and low adoption rates reflect the disparity of the area. Despite difficult odds, a woman named Carol Parks dedicated herself for over five years to coordinating rescue transports to areas with more resources, saving countless lives. Wasco lost a true hero when she died this month. We were only able to work with Carol on a few occasions (pulling 'Harpo,' 'Benny' and 'Joon') but knew we had to make space for a dog in her honor once we learned the sad news of her passing.
We knew Carol to be wise, optimistic, determined and always cheerful - despite the huge challenges she faced trying to move dogs to safety. Lottie seems to share these same can-do qualities. We think it would've made Carol very happy to know she is alive today because of her hard work.
Rest in peace, dear Carol. Thank you for doing the impossible and for working so hard to shine a light on Wasco's animals.
Goodnight Facebook Friends!
Empty Wasco Shelter 6-27-15
Van is rented, crates are counted and we are gettin-a-ready to get some animals out of the Wasco Animal Shelter in honor of the memory of our dear friend, Carol Parks!! We will be 1 of a group of transports going out along with our friends at No Paws Left Behind, some out of state transports and other efforts. We will have 9 dogs, 10 kittens and 1 adult cat on board. Stay tuned for adorable photos of animals on their way to the lives they deserve....
Save the date, save a crate!
Next Saturday, 6/27/15 we will be honoring the memory of our dear friend Carol Parks by an epic effort/rescue pull to empty out the Wasco Animal Shelter, if just for one day!
We need everyone’s help! If you cannot save a shelter animal but wish to contribute funds to help this effort, our friends at Buster’s Pet Fund are helping with collecting (tax-deductible) donations to enable transports – within California and out of state. Donation link posted below in comments. Underdogz volunteers are donating our transport fuel costs and time. Other needs are sharing & cross-posting this information to any rescuer that may have worked with Carol over the years. See the flyer for information on how to get updated info on animals already pending rescues. How awesome is this transport picture album going to be?
For Carol and for the animals - let's do this, village!

We want to extend a huge thank you to Natalia Corres!!
We met Natalia a few years back when she wrote an article about the work at Underdogz. She stepped up to help us and was instrumental in helping Underdogz with several things – including setting up our iGive account, Amazon Smile accounts, Amazon wish-list helping manage our FB page and lots of brainstorming. Natalia is now focused on her own non-profit to help more animals – check them out on FB! https://www.facebook.com/WEPFoundationInc
A huge heartfelt thank you from all of us, for all you have done and continue to do!
In Memory of Carol: Let’s empty the Wasco Animal Shelter
Please SAVE THE DATE / SAVE A LIFE
Saturday June 27 - for Carol Parks
Please plan to join us in this huge effort!
More info coming - Please crosspost.
Last night marked one week since Carol Parks, compassionate Wasco animal advocate and dear friend, died.
Wasco Animal Shelter is totally full right now. The cattery is totally full. Every dog kennel is overflowing and even the recently added play yards are housing dogs.
July 4th is around the corner and the fireworks will begin to explode any day. Terrified dogs will break out of their homes and yards. Stray intake increases days before the actual holiday and continues until every bottle rocket has finally fizzled. Because the shelter already is full, many Wasco animals will have to die in order to make space for these incoming dogs - unless something is done in advance to create space.
As a memorial to Carol, her years of personal sacrifice and her unrelenting dedication to saving animals, we will hold a special rescue transport on Saturday, June 27. We are asking every rescuer who has worked with Carol in saving Wasco animals to help us celebrate her life in exactly the way she would ask.
Join us as we celebrate Carol's life and her vision. Mark the date, save some space, and help us empty the Wasco shelter -- for that one day -- of every adoptable dog and cat. With your help, we can do it.
Please SAVE THE DATE / SAVE A LIFE
Saturday June 27 - for Carol Parks

Update: Abandoned Lot dogs - Angel & Gabe were spayed/neutered this week. Here is a video we just received from the rescue (SIAR) of them resting up after surgeries. Clearly, they are relaxed & content lil pooches :) Trudy is scheduled for her spay next week. Hoping we can catch the red dog , Lori, and get her to this fabulous rescue very soon!
Guess who's arrived safely and happily at rescue! We got these videos and a note saying that they have been named after their rescuers and one of the transporters: "we named the dogs Trudy (brindle), Angel (blond) and Gabe (boy)….when we get the red girl, we will name her Lori :)" Thank you again to Sacramento Independent Animal Rescuers for saving these guys! Hoping to get the red dog to them very soon.
