To some it’s a brown trout, to the boy who caught it - it’s the King Trout!

From a special memory between my Customer and his Son at their cabin, to a replica able to last a lifetime.

Male brown trout are a fun and challenging fish to paint, the lower spots are a reddish color with other colors layered on top of them. There’s also the iridescent shimmers and scale tipping. My favorite detail on the mount though was the little sliver of white on the a**l fin.

Got pictures of his Son holding the mount afterwards and it made my day - enjoy your King Trout ✨

Painted up this light olive and red rainbow trout replica recently, and I have to say the subtleties are many, and photos that captured them all were few.

So heres a few to show it from varying angles as best I could. I really appreciated how the spots were on this rainbow, plentiful and tiny, with a certain repetitive pattern to them.

I think my Customer’s Nephew will be one happy camper when he is surprised with it ✨

The replica was a and the scale detail was very nice on it, made it easy to tip! Side note to that - I did do some modifications to the tail and added splits on the dorsal to match photos. Even replicas can be personalized!

Tell me you Slay Dragons without telling me you Slay Dragons 🐲

What an absolute BEAST of a Snakehead! When my Customer pulled his new PB out of the water it was 35.5” in length and a beefy 15lbs! I’m sure a memory not soon to be forgotten, especially since the legend now gets to live on through this mount!

As requested, I included the very cool head markings, as well as, the scar on its side. I also spent some extra time working on the mouth and teeth, because nothing says snakehead like razor sharp teeth!

After a lot of going back and forth, I have decided to make a pricing change. The price of reproductions is being changed to $31/inch, however, skin mount pricing will remain unchanged. A 33% deposit is also now required to begin work on all mounts, with the remainder due upon completion.

This decision did not come lightly, but it is with the best interest of all my customers at heart. There is a wide range of reproductions available, but the ones that hold up to my standards are understandably priced accordingly.

That being said - If I have been speaking with you (or you were recently referred to me) about a mount and I already priced it out at the prior rate I will certainly honor that.

Thank you to all my customers who I have been blessed to finish mounts for, and the ones who are awaiting theirs. I look forward to what 2026 holds and continuing to produce eye-catching fish taxidermy ✨

Nothing says excitement like a little girl who lands a whale of a trout…Or in this case, a Unicorn! 🦄

This 26” mount was such a fun reproduction. When working on a large fish, some aspects of the project become easier (larger scales 🙌) but the task of having visually interesting details throughout can become more challenging. I really love how your eyes bounce around when looking at it.

Messaging with my customer throughout the process made my day several times over. He told me when we first talked, that his daughter called it a unicorn trout because of the k**b on its head…like how sweet is that! Then again when he sent me the reference photos of her proudly holding the 10lb rainbow up with a big smile from ear to ear and big pink bow in her hair 🎀. How awesome! Even after giving him the mount he sent me a video of her seeing it for the first time, which was amazing to see her excitement!

Some parts of being a fish taxidermist aren’t glamorous, but with the joy and imagination of a little girl it is magical, in her eyes, and mine ✨

I was able to give my customer these fish today - both caught by his young son this past year. The brook trout was his 1st ever fish and the rainbow his 19” trophy trout.

I had a conversation with my brother a while ago about the song I put with these photos - how when parents don’t make time when their kids are young, the kids then won’t make time for them when their older. Such a hard truth that any parent knows when you contemplate the duality of being a parent and also having parents.

These mounts are the result of a Dad spending his time, even though I’m sure relaxing at home would be easier, going out there and fishing with his son and reveling in the joy of the experience. Special moments you can’t replace.

As for the mounts - they are both reproductions with custom bases so they can be mounted separately (the brook can go in his room and the rainbow in the family area) or together later on if desired. Love how it all flows.

Something so stressful about airbrushing on those little red spots…

Just finished up this 19.5” bright bellied brook trout repro and love the finished result. Used some new techniques on it with painting and like how they added depth. When finishing a mount there is always something that I just love, and in this case it was the a**l fin. The way the paint fell and the blending was *chef’s kiss*

Can’t wait for the opportunity to do another one!

Slow and steady wins the race, or in this case, leads to a lovely 22” female Brown trout skin mount.

Disassembling a fish, and reassembling correctly is almost like a puzzle. You go until you get it right. Same goes for airbrushing to match the photos provided. That’s the artistic side of fish taxidermy - knowing how to deconstruct a photo and build that back up with paint layers. There are many ways to do that with success, I hope you enjoy looking through the photos and videos to see my way, and catch some of the subtle details and colors throughout.
