Come get your fresh veggies at the Parkville Farmers Market! This week only, we're at Parkville City Hall while the carnival is at English Landing Park.

This is the first week we have kohlrabi. Hot take: it makes a better slaw than regular cabbage, so much sweeter and at the size of an apple you can make slaw for 1 or 2.

What does ecological farming mean for an urban farm? We're in the middle of a multi year process of converting an acre of lawn into a farm with permanent beds for growing veggies, a perimeter of fruit trees and bushes for wind breaks, and areas for perennial herbs and edible flowers. Until the flower areas are more established, the collards, cabbages, and cilantro that somehow survived a Kansas City winter are feeding pollinators and putting on a show!

These flowers were tiny plants last fall so I couldn't bring them to the farmers market for you. The wind blew leaves on top of them to give them a nice blanket, and insects made their homes under the leaves during the winter. Now the pollinators get to use the nectar before the plants are composted to feed the microbiology.

We want to feed the Kansas City community with these vegetables, but when we can't, you can expect our farm is feeding the local ecology.
