Pick Me! Pet Rescue Animal Shelter and Charity Organization Pick Me! is a pet rescue dedicated to helping pets in need.

We feel that the best way to get a pet a new home is to list them on an adoption site and follow a proven standard process to approve a new home for them. We list dogs that we are currently fostering and dogs that we are not fostering ourselves, through 'courtesy posts' so that they will get the second chance they need through sites like adopt-a-pet to find a wonderful new family. Every dog that w

e adopt will have it's current vaccines, be spayed or neutered, and be on regular flea and heart worm preventive.

Always stay with your pup around water even when they do know how to swim, and make sure that they know where to go to get out!

Just a quick reminder, when you adopt from us we ALWAYS take our dogs back. You have signed a contract not to rehome them, but to contact us.

The boys: Chip and Dale, two brothers adopted as babies almost 10 years ago. We just happened to reach out to the adopters and found out they had decided to rehome them. They are back with Pick Me! Pet Rescue now and looking for a TRUE forever home.
Please share the boys for us, they are 10 years old and sweet as can be. Their lives were just turned upside down and they need a family again.💔

🚨 WARNING FOR PET PARENTS! 🚨

‼️ Deadly Pythiosis Infection Reported in Sarasota & Manatee Counties ‼️

A rare and often fatal infection called Pythiosis has been detected in at least five dogs in our area within the last month—four of those cases were fatal. 💔

🐶 What is Pythiosis?

Pythiosis is caused by the aquatic mold Pythium Insidiosum and can severely affect a dog's skin or gastrointestinal tract; frequently misdiagnosed as a fungal infection. It thrives in contaminated or stagnant water, including floodwaters, swamps, puddles, and retention ponds.

⚠️ Symptoms to Watch For:
🔹 Sores on the skin
🔹 Weight loss
🔹 Vomiting
🔹 Diarrhea
🔹 Loss of appetite

💡 How to Protect Your Pet:

🚫 Avoid letting dogs wade, swim, or drink from stagnant or contaminated water. Can affect horses and humans, too.
🛑 Be extra cautious after storms or floods
⏳ Seek immediate veterinary care if symptoms appear—early detection is critical

A local veterinarian warns that Pythiosis is incredibly difficult to treat and often fatal if not caught early.

📢 Please share to help spread awareness! Keeping our furry friends safe starts with education. Stay vigilant, Sarasota & Manatee pet families! ❤️🐾

1/08 6 pm update — SHE HAS BEEN FOUND SAFE!

🚨 URGENT – LOST FOSTER DOG 🚨

Please help us find Zoey!

Zoey escaped from her foster’s yard around 1 PM on 01/06/25 in Coventry (Heathrow, Lake Mary, FL). She is a tan Shih Tzu mix, wearing a pink collar, and is microchipped.

Zoey is very wary of strangers and may run if approached. She came from a difficult past and is nervous around new people.

Please SHARE – We were hopeful that she would be back home by now. Many people have been out and about searching, posting flyers, going to local shelter, etc. 😩
We need eyes everywhere to bring Zoey home safely!
