As a Polish-American, I don’t understand how any self-respecting Polish-American can stand by and support an administration turning their backs on Ukraine and cozying up to the murderous dictator Putin.
Putin is no friend to Poland. Polish citizens overwhelmingly support Ukraine and their fight against the Russian Invasion.
Poland has a history of occupation and communism until 1990 when they became a democratic republic. My dad and his family evaded N**i capture by hiding in the forest for over 6 months before being captured and forced to work at a labor camp during WWII.
I can’t understand how Polish-Americans and family members that share our generational trauma would support Putin over the democratic society of Ukraine.
Let’s be clear, Russia invaded Ukraine unprovoked. Poland is not naive enough to think Putin does not have his sights set on obtaining Polish territory. Putin recently said that it is necessary to “remind our friends in Warsaw. The western territories of present-day Poland are a gift from Stalin to the Poles.”
As if Poland should feel indebted to Russia for “giving them back “ their land. So why aren’t more Polish Americans enraged at the way Zelensky was berated by Trump and his administration, consequently removing military raid to Ukraine. Now Trump is planning to revoke legal status for 240,000 Ukrainians that fled the war.
When we stand with Ukraine, we honor our long history of fighting for democracy.
I’m proud to be a Polish-American and I’m proud to stand with Ukraine.
